Article Synopsis
  • Platelets inherit RNA from their parent megakaryocytes and this study uses single-cell RNA sequencing to investigate the platelet transcriptome, which has not been thoroughly explored before.
  • Findings revealed significant variability in gene expression among platelets, with common markers showing lower than expected abundance and highlighting that current identification methods often misclassify platelets.
  • The research stresses the importance of specialized sequencing techniques for accurate platelet profiling, which could lead to advancements in understanding platelet biology and their potential use in immune therapy and as biomarkers for diseases like cancer.

Maternal, Fetal, and Neonatal Research Center, Family Health Research Institute, Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Tehran, Iran.

Keutel syndrome (KS) as a scarce autosomal recessive disorder is characterized by hearing loss, multiple peripheral pulmonary stenoses, abnormal cartilage calcification, and morphological defects including midface hypoplasia and brachytelephalangism. We herein describe a 5-year-old boy who was referred for the evaluation of incidentally auscultated heart murmurs. He had no obvious abnormalities at birth but suffered from recurrent episodes of infectious otitis media during infancy.

Understanding immune reactivity against SARS-CoV-2 is essential for coping with the COVID-19 pandemic. Herein, we discuss experiences and open questions about the complex immune responses to SARS-CoV-2. Some people react excellently without experiencing any clinical symptoms, they do not get sick, and they do not pass the virus on to anyone else ("sterilizing" immunity).

Retinal arterial macroaneurysm with supravalvular pulmonic stenosis (RAMSVPS), also known as familial retinal arterial macroaneurysm syndrome, is an autosomal recessive disorder associated with many life-threatening complications. The disease is characterized by progressive multiple retinal arterial macroaneurysms, retinal arterial beading, and recurrent vitreous hemorrhage. Here, we describe the first case of RAMSVPS associated with peripheral ischemia evident on ultra-widefield fluorescein angiography.
