Objectives: Opioid use disorder (OUD) remains a common cause of overdose and mortality in the United States. Emergency medical services (EMS) clinicians often interact with patients with OUD, including during or shortly after an overdose. The aim of this study was to describe the characteristics and outcomes of patients receiving prehospital buprenorphine for the treatment of opioid withdrawal in an urban EMS system.

Objectives: To develop and validate the performance of CT-based radiomics models for predicting the prognosis of acute pancreatitis.

Methods: All 344 patients (51 ± 15 years, 171 men) in a first episode of acute pancreatitis (AP) were retrospectively enrolled and randomly divided into training (n = 206), validation (n = 69), and test (n = 69) sets with the ratio of 6:2:2. The patients were dichotomized into good and poor prognosis subgroups based on follow-up CT and clinical data.

NYU Grossman School of Medicine, New York, NY, USA.

Background: Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) and Excessive Daytime Sleepiness (EDS) are associated with increased Alzheimer's disease (AD) risk. Black and Hispanic subjects have a higher burden of AD, present with greater OSA symptom severity, and EDS than non-Hispanic whites. We present preliminary data supporting an innovative trial examining the impact of a novel OSA treatment paradigm on markers of (i) sleepiness related to cognition and (ii) AD progression, among Black and Hispanic subjects.

Background: Plasma p-tau217 shows high promise as an AD biomarker. In some mass spectrometry (MS) studies, the ratio between p-tau217 and the corresponding non-phospho peptide tau212-221 (p-tau217/T217) was suggested to increase accuracy to detect AD-type tau phosphorylation. However, disorders with rapid neurodegeneration or acute neuronal injury, are known to have increased neurodegeneration biomarkers e.

Developing low-toxicity, high-efficacy, and fast-acting strategies to manage acute liver injury (ALI) is critical due to its rapid progression and potential for severe outcomes. Curcumin (CUR) has shown promise in ALI therapy due to its ability to modulate the inflammatory microenvironment by scavenging reactive oxygen species (ROS). Nevertheless, CUR is highly hydrophobic limiting its bioavailability and effective in vivo transport, which hinders its further application.
