Background: Some scholars who are skeptical about open-access mega journals (OAMJs) have argued that low-quality papers are often difficult to publish in more prestigious and authoritative journals, and OAMJs may be their main destination.
Objective: This study aims to evaluate the academic quality of OAMJs and highlight their important role in clinical medicine. To achieve this aim, authoritative journals and representative OAMJs in this field were selected as research objects.

Objectives: To systematically review the safety and efficacy of nonbiological (NBAL) or biological artificial liver support systems (BAL) and whole-organ extracorporeal liver perfusion (W-ECLP) systems, in adults with acute liver failure (ALF) and acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF).
Data Sources: Eligible NBAL/BAL studies from PubMed/Embase searches were randomized controlled trials (RCTs) in adult patients with ALF/ACLF, greater than or equal to ten patients per group, reporting outcomes related to survival, adverse events, transplantation rate, and hepatic encephalopathy, and published in English from January 2000 to July 2023. Separately, we searched for studies evaluating W-ECLP in adult patients with ALF or ACLF published between January1990 and July 2023.

Background: Evidence suggests that by recognising the psychosocial component of illness as equally important to the biological components, care becomes more holistic, and patients can benefit. Providing this type of care requires collaboration among health professionals, rather than working in isolation, to achieve better outcomes. However, there is a lack of evidence about the implementation of integrated health care.

Introduction: Despite increasing female representation in medical fields, women remain underrepresented in high-impact authorship positions. This study examines gender disparities in authorship of randomized controlled trials in general surgery journals over the past 20 y.
Methods: Utilizing PubMed and the Journal Citation Reports (Clarivate, 2023), we identified 8810 randomized controlled trials from 117 surgery journals, filtering down to 5694 studies for final analysis.
