Accurate measurements of 235U enrichment within metallic nuclear fuels are essential for understanding material performance in a neutron irradiation environment, and the origin of secondary phases (e.g. uranium carbides). In this work, we analyse 235U enrichment in matrix and carbide phases in low enriched uranium alloyed with 10 wt% Mo via two chemical imaging modalities-nanoscale secondary ion mass spectrometry (NanoSIMS) and atom probe tomography (APT). Results from NanoSIMS and APT are compared to understand accuracy and utility of both approaches across length scales. NanoSIMS and APT provide consistent results, with no statistically significant difference between nominal enrichment (19.95 ± 0.14 at% 235U) and that measured for metal matrix and carbide inclusions.

Background And Purpose: To present the clinical outcomes of two series of patients treated with carbon-ion radiotherapy (CIRT) and definitive photon radiotherapy (RT) for adenoid cystic carcinoma of the head and neck (HN-ACC).

Material And Methods: The first cohort of six patients was referred from Oslo University Hospital (OUS) to Centro Nazionale di Adroterapia Oncologica (CNAO, Pavia, Italy) for CIRT in 2014-2017. The second cohort included 18 patients treated with definitive photon RT at OUS in 2005-2017.

A Protocol for GC-MS Profiling of Chiral Secondary Amino Acids.

A simple analytical workflow is described for gas chromatographic-mass spectrometric (GC-MS)-based chiral profiling of secondary amino acids (AAs) in biological matrices. The sample preparation is carried out directly in aqueous biological sample extracts and involves in situ heptafluorobutyl chloroformate (HFBCF) derivatization-liquid-liquid microextraction of nonpolar products into hexane phase followed by subsequent formation of the corresponding methylamides from the HFB esters by direct treatment with methylamine reagent solution. The (O, N) HFB-butoxycarbonyl-methylamide AA products (HFBOC-MA) are separated on a Chirasil-L-Val capillary column and quantitatively measured by GC-MS operated in selected ion monitoring (SIM) mode.

Heavy metal pollution, especially arsenic toxicity, significantly impairs plant growth and development. Phenolic acids, known for their antioxidant properties and involvement in stress signaling, are gaining increased attention as plant secondary metabolites with the potential to enhance plant resistance to these stressors. This study aimed to investigate the effects of different concentrations of syringic acid (SA1, 10 μM; SA2, 250 μM; SA3, 500 μM) on growth, photosynthetic parameters, and antioxidant activity in lettuce seedlings subjected to arsenic stress (As, 100 μM).

This study extends previous research, particularly focusing on patented scientific objects No. ID: PL 240 353 B1, investigating the physicochemical properties of the methyl 3-azido- and 3-amino-2,3-dideoxysaccharides with a nucleoside scaffold similar to 3'-azidothymidine (AZT). The study utilizes multiwavelength spectrophotometric and potentiometric methods to evaluate the ionization of the saccharide units in aqueous solutions.

Dentin hypersensitivity is primarily caused by the exposure of dentinal tubules due to various factors, so the key to treatment is to effectively seal these exposed tubules. However, traditional dentinal tubule sealants used in clinical practice often fail to adhere securely to the tubule surface when exposed to external stimuli, resulting in a recurrence of sensitivity. In this study, we developed a silicon micromotor that moved autonomously and loaded with silver nanoparticles and a photosensitive adhesive for dentin sensitivity therapy.
