Ceramics of binary systems solid solutions (1 - )NaNbO - CaNbO and (1 - )NaNbO - SrNbO with non-isostructural extreme components were prepared by the solid-phase reactions technique with the following sintering using conventional ceramic technology. It was found that ceramics with ≤ 0.2 have a perovskite structure. Layered type of structure predominates in the concentration range 0.2 < ≤ 1. Phase diagrams of both systems at room temperature have been determined in the perovskite area. It was shown that this area contains two concentration regions with the different crystal structures and the morphotropic phase boundary between them. Microstructure and dielectric characteristics of selected solid solutions were investigated. The influence of technological regulations, such as mechanical activation and variation of sintering temperatures, on the formation of the microstructure and dielectric characteristics was studied for the individually selected concentrations ( = 0.1 and = 0.25). Dielectric characteristics of ceramics revealed the presence of the Maxwell-Wagner polarization and its corresponding relaxation in the solid solutions (1 - )NaNbO - CaNbO at x > 0.20.

Improving Image Quality and Decreasing SAR With High Dielectric Constant Pads in 3 T Fetal MRI.

J Magn Reson Imaging

January 2025

Department of Radiology, Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital, Affiliated Hospital of Medical School, Nanjing University, Nanjing, Jiangsu, China.

Background: At high magnetic fields, degraded image quality due to dielectric artifacts and elevated specific absorption rate (SAR) are two technical challenges in fetal MRI.

Purpose: To assess the potential of high dielectric constant (HDC) pad in increasing image quality and decreasing SAR for 3 T fetal MRI.

Study Type: Prospective.

This study evaluated the effects of malic acid vacuum microwave preconditioning (MVMP) on lotus root (LR) by examining its moisture content, dielectric properties, microstructure, and starch characteristics, including modifications in starch structure and composition. Dielectric properties and LF-NMR indicated that the dielectric constant (ε') was closely associated to moisture content and state, while changes in water migration depended on microwave power and the dielectric loss factor (ε″). Increased microwave power and malic acid concentration resulted in microstructural damage (indentation and breakage of starch granules) and starch hydrolysis into smaller particles.

This investigation delves into the extraction of polyphenols from the flowers of Tabebuia rosea using a basic maceration approach with acetone, ethanol, and methanol as solvents. The spectroscopic analysis of the dye obtained confirms the existence of functional groups in the polyphenol extract. The study also explores optoelectronic, fluorescence, and photometric characteristics associated with polyphenols.

The process of micromachining has garnered attention for its ability to create three-dimensional tiny features, particularly in ultra-hard and exotic materials. The present work investigates the effect of different parameters of the µ-ED milling, such as pulse on time (Ton), pulse off time (Toff), voltage (V), and tool rotation (TR) on the dimensional deviation (DD), material removal rate (MRR), surface roughness (Ra), and machined surface characteristics (analysed by EDS and FESEM). The sesame oil as dielectric and tungsten-copper as tool electrodes were used to maintain the accuracy and improve the machinability of bio-grade Nitinol SMA.

As an effective method to enhance the dielectric performance of polyolefin materials, polar side group modification has been extensively applied in the insulation and energy storage materials of electrical and electronic systems. In this work, two side groups with different topological structures were adopted, namely, vinyl acetate (VAc, aliphatic chain) and -vinyl-pyrrolidone (NVP, saturated ring), to modify polypropylene (PP) chemical grafting, and the effects of structural topology of the polar side group on the microscopic and macroscopic characteristics of PP, particularly on its electrical anti-breakdown ability, were investigated. Experimental results showed that the side group structural topology directly affected the crystallization and thermal properties of PP.
