Triplet excitons have been identified as the major obstacle to the realisation of organic laser diodes, as accumulation of triplet excitons leads to significant losses under continuous wave (CW) operation and/or electrical excitation. Here, we report the design and synthesis of a solid-state organic triplet quencher, as well as in-depth studies of its dispersion into a solution processable bis-stilbene-based laser dye. By blending the laser dye with 20 wt% of the quencher, negligible effects on the ASE thresholds, but a complete suppression of singlet-triplet annihilation (STA) and a 20-fold increase in excited-state photostability of the laser dye under CW excitation, were achieved. We used small-area OLEDs (0.2 mm) to demonstrate efficient STA suppression by the quencher in the nanosecond range, supported by simulations to provide insights into the observed STA quenching under electrical excitation. The results demonstrate excellent triplet quenching ability under both optical and electrical excitations in the nanosecond range, coupled with excellent solution processability.

Chronic elevated blood pressure impinges on the functioning of multiple organs and therefore harms body homeostasis. Elucidating the protective mechanisms whereby the organism copes with sustained or repetitive blood pressure rises is therefore a topical challenge. Here we address this issue in the adrenal medulla, the master neuroendocrine tissue involved in the secretion of catecholamines, influential hormones in blood pressure regulation.

Spike-wave-discharges (SWD) are the electrophysiological hallmark of absence epilepsy. SWD are generated in the thalamo-cortical network and a seizure onset zone was identified in the somatosensory cortex (S1). We have shown before that inhibition of the centromedian thalamic nucleus (CM) in GAERS rats resulted in a selective suppression of the spike component while rhythmic cortical 5-9 Hz oscillations remained present.

However, these all-dielectric metasurfaces usually require the aid of degenerate critical coupling schemes or back-metal reflective layers to achieve high absorption, which often suffers from limitations such as sensitive geometrical parameters, ohmic losses, and low -factors. This work presents an ADM for high- near-perfect light absorption, which consists of double Si nanorods and SiO/TaO multilayers.

Neural diversity can expand the encoding capacity of a circuitry. A striking example of diverse structure and function is presented by the afferent synapses between inner hair cells (IHCs) and spiral ganglion neurons (SGNs) in the cochlea. Presynaptic active zones at the pillar IHC side activate at lower IHC potentials than those of the modiolar side that have more presynaptic Ca channels.

This article describes an optically adjustable, dual complementary molecular TRANSFER and COMPLEMENT logic gate as well as an extremely rare design of excitation-modulated logic systems using a pyrene coupled bis(indolyl)methane derivative (1) in Brij-58 micelles, triggered by different chemical stimuli. We have looked into the optical response of the probe molecule towards variety of analytes, including OH, CN, Hg, EDTA ., at various excitation channels, in order to achieve this goal.
