We investigate the antioxidant activity and protective effects of the aqueous leaf extract of (AELPL) against ulcerative colitis induced by acetic acid infusion through the rectum in Wistar rats. Phytochemical analyses allowed the identification of numerous phenolic compounds in leaves such as flavonoids (isoquercetin and luterolin), flavonols (catechin, rutin, and kaempferol), phenolic acids (ellagic and dicaffeoylquinic), and tanins. Acetic acid exposure induced macroscopic colonic mucosal lesions with hemorrhage, congestion, edema, and the development of an expected oxidative stress state revealed by an increase in lipoperoxidation and carbonylation of proteins and a decrease in sulfhydryl (SH) group levels and antioxidant enzyme activities such as superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione-S-peroxidase, and glutathione transferase, as well as an increase in the inflammatory cytokine, interleukin-6, in the colon and plasma. Administration of acetic acid also increased plasma and tissue levels of hydrogen peroxide and rates of iron and free calcium, whereas AELPL significantly and dose-dependently attenuated all the previous biochemical alterations and intracellular mediator perturbations. In conclusion, the AELPL exhibited a potent cytoprotective effect against acetic acid-induced colitis in rats, mainly through its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities.

Purpose: Patients with partial or complete DPD deficiency have decreased capacity to degrade fluorouracil and are at risk of developing toxicity, which can be even life-threatening.
Case: A 43-year-old man with moderately differentiated rectal adenocarcinoma on capecitabine presented to the emergency department with complaints of nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, weakness, and lower abdominal pain for several days. Laboratory findings include grade 4 neutropenia (ANC 10) and thrombocytopenia (platelets 36,000).

p-Coumaric acid (p-CA), an invaluable phytochemical, has novel bioactivities, including antiproliferative, anxiolytic, and neuroprotective effects, and is the main precursor of various flavonoids, such as caffeic acid, naringenin, and resveratrol. Herein, we report the engineering of Escherichia coli for de novo production of p-CA via the PAL-C4H pathway. As the base strain, we used the E.

BACKGROUND Different temperature conditions can affect the efficiency of irrigation solutions and consequently the ability of canal sealers to bond to root canal walls. The aim of this endodontic study was to evaluate the effect of irrigation solutions at different temperatures on the bond strength of a bioceramic-based root canal sealer. MATERIAL AND METHODS Root canal preparations were completed through irrigation with the following solutions: Group 1 was irrigated with 5 ml NaOCl (sodium hypochlorite) +5 ml EDTA (Ethylenediamine tetra-acetic acid) (22°C); Group 2 was irrigated with 5 ml NaOCl +5 ml EDTA (37°C); Group 3 was irrigated with 5 ml NaOCl +5 ml GA (Glycolic acid) (22°C); Group 4 was irrigated with 5 ml NaOCl +5 ml GA (37°C), Group 5 was irrigated with 20 ml Dual Rinse® HEDP (Etidronate) - NaOCl mixture (22°C); and Group 6 was irrigated with 20 ml of Dual Rinse® HEDP mixture (37°C).

Background: The existing criteria for living kidney donors (LKDs)in Japan are controversial. We evaluated the roles of computed tomography volumetry (CTV) and 99 m Tc-diethylenetriamine penta-acetic acid (DTPA) scintigraphy in assessing preoperative and postoperative renal function and predicting early recovery of residual renal function.
Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the medical charts of 175 consecutive LKDs who underwent donor nephrectomy (DN) at our institution between 2006 and 2022.

Naphthalene acetic acid (NAA) is an auxin plant growth regulator (PGR) and widely used to regulate the growth process of plants. As excessive NAA enter the environment, it damages the ecological environment and endangers human life and health. Layered bimetallic hydroxides (LDHs) are widely used for the adsorption of pollutants due to their large surface area and excellent structural properties.
