Bernhardt-Roth syndrome (BRS) is a neurological condition characterised by pain, burning or numbness in anterolateral thigh due to entrapment of the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve (LFCN). The possible aetiologies can be mechanical, iatrogenic, neuropathic or idiopathic. After consent for possible publication, we are discussing a case of pain management in a 38-year-old patient with BRS secondary to diabetes. The coherent history, uncontrolled glycaemic status and reduced nerve conduction velocity for LFCN helped reach the diagnosis. Initial treatment with pharmacotherapy, steroid LFCN block and conventional pulsed radiofrequency (PRF) provided moderate temporary pain relief. Extended PRF over 8 min provided significant analgesia without any complications. Physical therapy, adequate glycaemic control and extended PRF provided complete pain relief and improved function over 6 months of follow-up duration. Hence, a cautious multifaceted approach targeting the basic aetiology with extended PRF helped achieve significant analgesia in our refractory case of BRS.

Platelet-derived growth factor receptor alpha (PDGFR-α) activity is crucial in the process of dental and periodontal mesenchyme regeneration facilitated by autologous platelet concentrates (APCs), such as platelet-rich fibrin (PRF), platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and concentrated growth factors (CGF), as well as by recombinant PDGF drugs. However, it is largely unclear about the physiological patterns and cellular fate determinations of PDGFR-α cells in the homeostasis maintaining of adult dental and periodontal mesenchyme. We previously identified NFATc1 expressing PDGFR-α cells as a subtype of skeletal stem cells (SSCs) in limb bone in mice, but their roles in dental and periodontal remain unexplored.

For many problems in population genetics, it is useful to characterize the distribution of fitness effects (DFE) of de novo mutations among a certain class of sites. A DFE is typically estimated by fitting an observed site frequency spectrum (SFS) to an expected SFS given a hypothesized distribution of selection coefficients and demographic history. The development of tools to infer gene trees from haplotype alignments, along with ancient DNA resources, provides us with additional information about the frequency trajectories of segregating mutations.

Introduction: Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) is being increasingly utilized in surgical procedures due to various improvements in clinical outcomes. More recently, a heating process to denature albumin in the platelet poor plasma (PPP) layer has been shown to extend the resorption time of PRF from a typical 2-week period to 4-6 months. Because of its > 4 month resorption properties, extended PRF (e-PRF) membranes have been used in dentistry as an alternative to collagen membranes in alveolar ridge preservations, ridge augmentations, soft tissue grafting, and as a barrier membrane in lateral sinus grafting procedures.

Neurofilaments (NFs) are multisubunit, bottlebrush-shaped intermediate filaments abundant in the axonal cytoskeleton. Each NF subunit contains a long intrinsically disordered tail domain, which protrudes from the NF core to form a "brush" surrounding each NF.
