The management of challenging and refractory destructive behaviour in young patients with intellectual disability (ID) is a major issue faced by families, carers and healthcare professionals who support them. Often, paediatricians and psychiatrists use various behavioural and psychopharmacological approaches, including polypharmacy. We report on one such patient who benefitted greatly from a trial of clozapine, resulting in less aggression, improved quality of life and potentially huge cost savings. We conclude that clozapine may represent a beneficial though seldom-used option for severe, destructive behaviour in young people with ID.

Background: The entomopathogenic fungus, Isaria fumosorosea, shows promise as a biological control agent in managing the diamondback moth (DBM) Plutella xylostella, a highly destructive global pest of cruciferous vegetables. To date, the miRNA-mRNA regulatory networks underlying the immune response of DBM to I. fumosorosea infection are still poorly understood.

Whereas single crystals of organic compounds that respond to heat or light have been reported and studied in detail, studies on crystalline organic compounds that elicit an extreme mechanical response are relatively rare in the chemical literature. A tetrafluoro(aryl)sulfanylated bicyclopentane synthesized in our laboratory was discovered to exhibit such behavior; i.e.

Health is a precious asset, essential for both individuals and communities. The wars that have affected various parts of the world in recent years have had a detrimental impact on health, leading to malnutrition and an increased vulnerability to epidemic diseases among the population, especially the poorest. Periodontitis is an inflammatory disease triggered by microbial biofilms that promote immune dysfunction and tissue destruction of tooth-supporting tissues. The search for soluble mediators that amplify inflammatory responses and matrix degradation in periodontal tissues has implicated extracellular vimentin (ECV) as a signaling ligand and damage-associated molecular pattern in the pathogenesis of periodontitis. Intracellular vimentin filaments are essential for the structural integrity of cells and the preservation of matrix homeostasis.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a major global public health problem and the burden of disease is estimated to continue to increase. Since 2023, significant progress has been achieved in the early identification, pathogenesis, biomarkers, and personalized treatment of COPD. Early-stage COPD, as defined by varying criteria, has been shown to have distinct epidemiological features that affect disease prognosis, emphasizing the importance of early monitoring and intervention.
