Background: Although well-established, sentinel node biopsy (SNB) for melanoma is not free from controversies and sometimes it can be questionable if SNB should be considered even for patients who meet the criteria for the procedure. Mathematical tools such as nomograms can be helpful and give more precise answers for both clinicians and patients. We present a nomogram for SNB positivity that has been internally validated.

Methods: Retrospective analysis of patients who underwent SNB from 2000 to 2015 in a single institution. Single logistic regressions were used to identify variables that were associated to SNB positivity. All variables with a value < 0.05 were included in the final model. Overall performance, calibration, and discriminatory power of the final multiple logistic regression model were all assessed. Internal validation of the multiple logistic regression model was performed via bootstrap analysis based on 1000 replications.

Results: Site of primary lesion, Breslow thickness, mitotic rate, histologic regression, lymphatic invasion, and Clark level were statistically related to SNB positivity. After internal validation, a good performance was observed as well as an adequate power of discrimination (area under the curve 0.751).

Conclusions: We have presented a nomogram that can be helpful and easily used in daily practice for assessing SNB positivity.

Background: Scalp nerve blocks (SNB) may significantly reduce post-craniotomy pain (PCP) but only for a short period of time. Dexamethasone, as an adjuvant to local anesthetics, was reported to prolong the analgesia duration of never block; however, the addition of dexamethasone to SNB is rare. We therefore tested the hypothesis that dexamethasone as an adjuvant to bupivacaine in SNB is positive after craniotomy.

Arbovirus surveillance in marmosets (Callithrix spp.) that live close to humans helps identify viral circulation in the environment and contributes to public health. We investigated the exposure to arboviral infections in 47 captive and free-living Callithrix from urban and peri-urban areas in the semiarid region of northeastern Brazil (SNB) in 2018.

Aims/hypothesis: A positive association between sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) and diabetes risk has been shown, with inconsistent evidence between artificially sweetened beverages (ASBs) and diabetes. Moreover, it is uncertain if physical activity can mitigate the negative effects of these beverages on diabetes development. Therefore, we aimed to evaluate the independent and joint associations between SSB or ASB consumption and physical activity on the risk of type 2 diabetes.

Introduction Current guidelines advocate for a sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) in patients with invasive breast cancer with negative axillary ultrasonography. However, emerging evidence has contradicted this, and SLNB omission has been found to be non-inferior in selected low-risk breast cancers. This retrospective study aimed to evaluate the incidence of SLNB in screen-detected invasive breast cancer.
