The fluorescent probe , based on naphthalimide-modified coumarin, was designed, synthesized, and characterized, which could recognize Cu from other cations selectively and sensitively in HEPES buffer (10 mM, Ph = 7. 4)/CHCN (1:4, V/V). When the probe interacted with Cu, the color and the fluorescent intensity changed obviously and it provided the naked-eye detection for Cu. The recognition mode between them was achieved by Job's plot, IR, MS, SEM, and HNMR. In addition, test strips made from could still interact with Cu in tap water effectively. The limit of detection (LOD) of was 3.5 × 10 M. Additionally, the density functional theory (DFT) calculation method was used to analyze the action mechanism of toward Cu. Importantly, the fluorescent probe could demonstrate favorable selectivity toward Cu in . Thus, was considered to have some potential for application in bioimaging.

Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are membrane-bound structures produced and released into the extracellular space by all types of cells. Due to their characteristics, EVs play crucial roles in cellular communication and signaling, holding an immense potential as biomarkers and molecular transporters. Various methods have been developed to label and characterize EVs, however, visualizing EVs remains a process that requires highly specialized and expensive equipment, which is not always available in all the laboratories.

Despite significant advancements in the structural flexibility and functional diversity of fluorescent molecular sensors, the chromophores often require complex synthetic processes and are typically designed to perform only a specific function. Herein, we have demonstrated the unique features of fluorophores based on a fused coumarin-indole scaffold, which are synthetically available via a one-step reaction. Four fluorophores (ICH, ICEst, ICOMe, and ICNMe2) with varying substituents were synthesized and characterized.

Mycoremediation is a biological treatment approach that relies on fungi to transform environmental pollutants into intermediates with lower environmental burden. Basidiomycetes have commonly been used as the target fungal phylum for bioaugmentation in mycoremediation, however this phylum has been found to be unreliable when used at scale in the field. In this study, we isolated, characterized, and identified potential polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) degrading fungal isolates from creosote-contaminated sediment in the Elizabeth River, Virginia.

SERS Detection of Hydrophobic Molecules: Thio-β-Cyclodextrin-Driven Rapid Self-Assembly of Uniform Silver Nanoparticle Monolayers and Analyte Trapping.

Biosensors (Basel)

January 2025

CAS Key Laboratory of Coastal Environmental Processes and Ecological Remediation, Yantai Institute of Coastal Zone Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Yantai 264003, China.

High-sensitivity and repeatable detection of hydrophobic molecules through the surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) technique is a tough challenge because of their weak adsorption and non-uniform distribution on SERS substrates. In this research, we present a simple self-assembly protocol for monolayer SERS mediated by 6-deoxy-6-thio-β-cyclodextrin (β-CD-SH). This protocol allows for the rapid assembly of a compact silver nanoparticle (Ag NP) monolayer at the oil/water interface within 40 s, while entrapping analyte molecules within hotspots.

Digital Melting Curve Analysis for Multiplex Quantification of Nucleic Acids on Droplet Digital PCR.

Biosensors (Basel)

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Digital Medical Engineering, School of Biological Science and Medical Engineering, Southeast University, Si Pai Lou 2, Nanjing 210096, China.

We present a cost-effective and simple multiplex nucleic acid quantification method using droplet digital PCR (ddPCR) with digital melting curve analysis (MCA). This approach eliminates the need for complex fluorescent probe design, reducing both costs and dependence on fluorescence channels. We developed a convolutional neighborhood search algorithm to correct droplet displacement during heating, ensuring precise tracking and accurate extraction of melting curves.
