The object of this paper is in vivo study of skin spectral-characteristics in patients with kidney failure by conventional Raman spectroscopy in near infrared region. The experimental dataset was subjected to discriminant analysis with the projection on latent structures (PLS-DA). Application of Raman spectroscopy to investigate the forearm skin in 85 adult patients with kidney failure (90 spectra) and 40 healthy adult volunteers (80 spectra) has yielded the accuracy of 0.96, sensitivity of 0.94 and specificity of 0.99 in terms of identifying the target subjects with kidney failure. The autofluorescence analysis in the near infrared region identified the patients with kidney failure among healthy volunteers of the same age group with specificity, sensitivity, and accuracy of 0.91, 0.84, and 0.88, respectively. When classifying subjects by the presence of kidney failure using the PLS-DA method, the most informative Raman spectral bands are 1315 to 1330, 1450 to 1460, 1700 to 1800 cm . In general, the performed study demonstrates that for in vivo skin analysis, the conventional Raman spectroscopy can provide the basis for cost-effective and accurate detection of kidney failure and associated metabolic changes in the skin.

Certain molecules, such as GLP-1 agonists and endothelin antagonists, possess nephroprotective properties. When treating IgA nephropathy, endothelin antagonists and sibeprenlimab have shown effectiveness in slowing the progression of chronic kidney isease. Additionally, the infusion of amino acids can reduce the incidence of mild acute kidney injury following cardiac surgery.

Introduction: The clinical characteristics of inflammatory bowel disease (dnIBD) diagnosed after solid organ transplant (SOT) are not well-described, particularly since the advent of biologic therapy for treatment of IBD.

Methods: We conducted a single-center, retrospective review of SOT recipients between 2010 and 2022 at the University of Minnesota Medical Center who were diagnosed with IBD after transplant.

Results: Of 89 patients at our center with IBD and a history of SOT, five (5.

Primary Sjögren's syndrome (SS) is a systemic autoimmune disorder primarily affecting exocrine glands, that may occasionally present with severe extra-glandular manifestations. Although rarely, severe hypokalemia and respiratory muscle paralysis may be initial presentations. We report the case of a 33-year-old woman with a recent history of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV2) infection who presented with headache and generalized muscle weakness.

Pulmonary thromboembolism (PTE) is the third most common cause of acute cardiovascular disease, which can lead to high morbidity and mortality if left untreated. Anatomical and electrophysiological variations and obesity may complicate timely diagnosis and delay required management. While computed tomography pulmonary angiography (CTPA) remains the most accurate diagnostic tool, initial assessments using electrocardiography (ECG) or echocardiography can be helpful in early suspicion.

Background: Chronic kidney disease is a global problem characterized by a progressive decrease in kidney function with associated symptoms. A better understanding of these symptoms could lead to the development of personalized strategies.

Objective: This systematic review aims to describe the clusters of symptoms in kidney failure and categorize them according to their time of onset and how disabling they are for patients.
