The aim of our study is to develop a one-step procedure to remove and degrade dyes from wastewater using a low-cost and efficient system based on aqueous two-phase system (ATPS), a well-known technique used to concentrate and recover enzymes. We investigated the catalytic proprieties of rice bran peroxidase (RBP) and found that this homemade enzyme can remain bound to its substrate for up to 5 days in controlled environments, without denaturing and while maintaining stable oxidation reduction potential (ORP) and pH. This biomolecule showed affinity for the ATPS technique prepared with polyethylene glycol and salt, which improved the relative activity up to 170%. The red dye separation in ATPS top phase was achieved in 3 min, in the RBP presence, with 100% of efficiency, and color removal of 87% was obtained in 24 h of enzymatic reaction. The process has promise to be scaled up to 10-fold and to reuse the reagents from the bottom phase of the ATPS.

Background: Basal cell carcinoma is the most common skin malignancy. The standard treatment is surgical excision with predetermined margins. Some argue that the currently recommended surgical margins are excessive, and it is questionable whether such wide surgical margins should be applied to all lesions.

Natural compounds have shown promising application prospects in preventing or treating various diseases, including osteoporosis on account of their abundant sources, low price, multi-targeting and multiple biological effects. As a bioactive natural product, quercetin (Que) has previously demonstrated to ameliorate osteoporosis (OP), however, its poor bioavailability resulting from low water solubility, poor stability and lack of bone-targeting largely restricted its efficacy and clinical applications. Inspired by the bone-targeting capability of phosphate compounds, we reported a one-step procedure for synthesis of phosphorylated Que (p-Que) by direct phosphorylating phenol groups of Que for the first time.

A phage-antibiotic synergy could be an alternative in urinary tract infection (UTI) therapy, as it leads to the elimination of bacteria and to the reduction in variants resistant to phages and antibiotics. The aims of the in vitro study were to determine whether phages vB_Efa29212_2e and vB_Efa29212_3e interact synergistically with selected antibiotics in the treatment of infections, to optimize antibiotic concentrations and phage titers for the most effective combinations, and to assess their impact on the number of spontaneous resistant variants and on the phages' reproductive cycles. The modified double-layer disc diffusion method, checkboard, time-kill assays, one-step growth method and the double agar overlay plaque assay were implemented.

Muconic acid, a crucial precursor in synthesizing materials like PET bottles and nylon, is pivotal for the anticipated growth in the textiles and plastics industries. This study presents a novel chemical synthesis route for ,-muconic acid (ccMA) using catechol. Biochemical methods face scale-up challenges due to microorganism sensitivity and complex extraction processes, while chemical methods involve environmentally harmful substances and have low yields.

Variable selection is important in spectral analysis for improving interpretation quality and accuracy. This study introduces a novel variable selection process, named "VMHBSC", which consists of six steps, with each letter representing one step. To demonstrate its process and advantages, two datasets were employed, a mid-infrared spectral (MIR) dataset (234 × 7468, sample number × variables) of Chenpi samples (a traditional Chinese medicinal material derived from the dried peel of mature tangerines) and a near-infrared spectral (NIR) dataset (16000 × 256) for modeling competition.
