A functional greener solvent mixture containing water, isopropyl alcohol (IPA) and ethyl acetate with the ratio 10:20:70 (wt%) was found to accelerate hydrogenation of bisphenol A type epoxy resin BE503 with a molecular weight of 1500 through an on-water mechanism, and led to an increased H availability, due to high solubility of H in IPA. Different carbon-based supports were tested and VulcanXC72 was found as the best support among the tested carbon-based ones as it possessed the highest amount of electron deficient promoter, RhO. The catalyst, Rh/VulcanXC72-polyol, synthesized by the microwave assisted polyol method, yielded a 100% hydrogenation of aromatic rings with an epoxy ring opening below 20.0% at 50 °C and a H pressure of 1000 psi in 2.25 h. Intrinsic activation energies for the hydrogenation of aromatic rings and epoxy ring opening were experimentally estimated and a mechanism for the hydrogenation of BE503 was proposed, wherein the hydrogenation of aromatic rings and epoxy ring opening in BE503 proceeded simultaneously in parallel and in-series with parallel being the major pathway.

Ni(II)-hydrazineylpyridine (Ni(II)-PyH)-catalyzed regioselective synthesis of α-benzyl substituted β-hydroxy ketones from α,β-unsaturated ketones and alcohols is reported a Fenton free-radical reaction. This protocol enables facile access to desired products in good to excellent yields in 12 h using toluene solvent at room temperature to 100 °C. The structural analysis of the products was confirmed by H, C-NMR, GC-MS, and HRMS data.

The advancement of an effective hydrogen liberation technology from liquid organic hydrogen carriers, particularly cycloalkanes such as cyclohexane and methylcyclohexane, holds significance in realizing a hydrogen-centric society. However, the attainment of homogeneous catalytic acceptorless dehydrogenation characterized by elevated selectivity for thorough aromatization under mild conditions remains unrealized. In this study, a catalyst system, facilitated by a double hydrogen atom transfer processes, has been devised for the catalytic acceptorless dehydrogenation of inert cycloalkanes at ambient temperature under visible light irradiation.

A soluble fraction of faba bean protein was conjugated with tannic acid via the free-radical grafting method using a mixture of ascorbic acid and hydrogen peroxide. Surface plasmon resonance showed a strong bonding between them, while the free amino and thiol group measurements indicated tannic acid's bonding with the amino groups and cysteine residues on the proteins. Structural analysis using intrinsic fluorescence and surface hydrophobicity demonstrated tannic acid's interaction with the aromatic and hydrophobic amino acids of the protein.

In this study, tomato paste was fortified with iron compounds at 25, 50, and 75 ppm concentrations. The effect of adding these micronutrient iron concentrations on the paste's physical, mechanical, aromatic, and chemical properties was evaluated every 15 days over a 60-day, storage period. The results indicated a gradual decrease in pH, total soluble solids (TSS), and taste index, alongside an increase in total acidity (TA) for all treatments throughout the storage period.

Our previous research discovered that myricetin could effectively inhibit the formation of heterocyclic aromatic amines (HAAs) in cantonese baked foods by trapping phenylacetaldehyde to form adducts. However, the structure and biological activity of these adducts were still unknown. In this study, we identified two myricetin-phenylacetaldehyde adducts from cantonese mooncakes, BYQ-2 and BYQ-3, using pre-HPLC.
