In this study, chitosan cross-linked into graphene oxide/iron(III) oxide hydroxide nanocomposites. For this purpose, to a mixture of graphene oxide in deionized water was added to iron(II) sulfide and hydrogen peroxide solution. The pH was then adjusted. Then, chitosan dissolved in acetic acid was added. This compound applied as nano-biosorbent for the removal of Pd(II) and Cd(II) ions from aqueous solution. Nanocomposites were characterized by FT-IR, XRD, SEM, and EDX analysis. The effects of valid parameters such as pH (2-9), sorbent mass (0.01-0.1 g), temperature (25-60 °C), and contact time (20-50 min) were investigated in adsorption of Pd(II) and Cd(II) ions. The results showed that oxygen-containing functional groups on the surface of graphene oxide, iron(III) oxide hydroxide nanoparticles, and the abundant amino and hydroxyl functional groups of chitosan chain were shown excellent potential for Pd(II) and Cd(II) adsorption. The removal percentage of Pd(II) and Cd(II) were 84 and 95%, respectively. The Freundlich and Langmuir adsorption isotherms were investigated for the description of adsorption onto nanocomposites. However, the Freundlich model showed a higher correlation coefficient (R) than Langmuir isotherm. The pseudo-second-order equation was the best fitted kinetic model for this process.

The extraction performance and complexation properties between some typical fission products (FPs) with phenanthroline-based ligands ,,-triethyl--tolyl-1,10-phenanthroline-2,9-dicarboxamide (DE-ET-DAPhen) and -ethyl-,-dioctyl--tolyl-1,10-phenanthroline-2,9-dicarboxamide (DO-ET-DAPhen) were described in this work. The low distributions of Ln(III) observed in the solvent extraction study showed the potential of the ligands for the separation of actinides and lanthanides in high-level liquid waste (HLLW). Further extraction studies on other FPs showed that the ligands could efficiently extract Pd(II) and Cd(II) using -octanol as a diluent.

Heavy metal ions that exist in groundwater and farmland jeopardize the ecological environment and are very difficult to remove because of the complicated actual environment. Raw bentonite-gelatin beads (RB-GT) and magnetic bentonite-gelatin beads (MB-GT) synthesized in this work would be an appropriate tool to solve this problem. We previously reported that monoalkyl dithiocarbamate-modified cellulose (DMC) exhibited excellent adsorption performance for arsenite (As), cadmium (Cd), lead (Pb), gold (Au), silver (Ag), platinum (Pt), and palladium (Pd). Photoluminescence activity of coordination polymers (CPs) has evoked intricate applications in the field of materials science, especially sensing of ions/molecules. In the present study, 2,3,5,6-tetrakis(2-pyridyl)pyrazine (tppz) and 5-aminoisophthalate (HAIPA) coordinated to Cd(II) to architect a coordination polymer, {[Cd(HAIPA)(tppz)(OH)]·3HO} (CP) which unveils blue emission in an aqueous acetonitrile (98% aqueous) suspension. The emission is selectively quenched by Pd only without interference in the presence of as many as 16 other cations.
