Background: The diagnosis of syndesmotic instability is challenging, and chronically unstable injuries can potentially lead to ankle arthritic degeneration. The objective of this cadaveric study was to utilize a 3-dimensional (3D) weight-bearing computed tomography (WBCT) distance mapping algorithm for the detection of subtle syndesmotic instability, induced by complete syndesmotic ligament sectioning and stressed by isolated axial load. We hypothesized that this algorithm would accurately detect subtle syndesmotic instability.

Introduction: The early diagnosis of mandibular asymmetry (MA) in patients with unilateral cleft lip and palate (UCLP) can contribute to its treatment.
Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the occurrence and the extent of MA in UCLP patients at different growth stages.
Methods: Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) of 47 UCLP patients were included, and divided into two groups (prepubertal stage and pubertal stage).

Secondary alveolar bone grafting (sABG) is crucial for the treatment of alveolar clefts. However, postoperative bone formation using a graft material comprising a mixture of beta-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP) and chin bone has been previously evaluated only 2-dimensionally, using plain radiographic images. In this study, the authors aimed to retrospectively and 3-dimensionally assess bone formation following sABG in patients with an alveolar cleft, using a mixture of β-TCP and chin bone.

The mental foramen (MF) is an important anatomical landmark in the jaw, where the sensory nerve (mental nerve) and blood vessels emerge. To avoid sensory impairment or paresthesia caused by mental nerve damage, the MF must be accurately identified and localized. The literature describes a variety of anatomical variants of the MF, such as changes in its position, emergence profile or the presence of extra foramina.

Methods: CBCT scans of 30 patients with bilateral CLP (BCLP), 70 with unilateral CLP (UCLP) and 70 healthy individuals were taken for investigation. In each group, the first and second molars were assessed for the presence of taurodontism.
