Recent studies have revealed that long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) involve in the progression of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). These lncRNAs have emerged as biomarkers or therapeutic targets for OSCC. We here aimed to investigate the role of lncRNA LINC01315 in OSCC and the related mechanisms. LINC01315 and DLG3 were determined to be poorly expressed while microRNA-211 (miR-211) was highly expressed in OSCC tissues and cells using RT-qPCR and western blot analysis. Based on the results obtained from dual-luciferase reporter gene, RIP, and FISH assays, LINC01315 was found to upregulate DLG3 expression by competitively binding to miR-211. Upon altering the expression of LINC01315, and/or miR-211 in OSCC cells with shRNA, mimic, or an inhibitor, we assessed their effects on OSCC cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and apoptosis. LINC01315 knockdown enhanced OSCC cell proliferation, migration and invasion, but dampened their apoptosis, all of which could be reversed by miR-211 inhibition. Elevation of DLG3, a target gene of miR-211, activated the Hippo signaling pathway, whereby suppressing OSCC progression . Finally, their roles in tumor growth were validated . These findings suggest that LINC01315 elevates DLG3 expression by competitively binding to miR-211, thereby suppressing OSCC progression.

Objective: Drug resistance and subsequent adverse effects, such as cancer cachexia, limit the clinical use of cisplatin. Oligonol® (Olg), a low-molecular-weight polyphenol, exhibits NF-κB inhibitory properties. NF-κB activation has been implicated in cisplatin resistance of cancer cells and skeletal muscle wasting.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aims to assess how often the submandibular gland (SMG) is affected in patients with oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) and whether it can be preserved during treatment.
  • - Researchers analyzed data from 238 patients treated from January 2018 to October 2022, focusing specifically on 10 individuals with tongue squamous cell carcinoma who received postoperative radiotherapy and aimed to limit the radiation dose to the SMG.
  • - Findings indicate that SMG involvement in OSCC is uncommon, and with careful planning, it's possible to reduce radiation exposure to the SMG while still treating the cancer effectively.

Homeobox A5 () has been identified as a tumor suppressor gene in breast cancers, but its role in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) has not been confirmed. The Illumina GoldenGate Assay for methylation identified that DNA methylation patterns differ between tumorous and normal tissues in the oral cavity and that is one of the genes that are hypermethylated in oral tumor tissues. The present study obtained more‑complete information on the methylation status of by using the Illumina Infinium MethylationEPIC BeadChip and bisulfite sequencing assays.
