The epididymis is an important male accessory sex organ where sperm motility and fertilization ability develop. When spermatozoa carrying foreign antigens enter the epididymis, the epididymis shows "immune privilege" to tolerate them. It is well-known that a tolerogenic environment exists in the caput epididymis, while pro-inflammatory circumstances prefer the cauda epididymis. This meticulously regulated immune environment not only protects spermatozoa from autoimmunity but also defends spermatozoa against pathogenic damage. Epididymitis is one of the common causes of male infertility. Up to 40% of patients suffer from permanent oligospermia or azoospermia. This is related to the immune characteristics of the epididymis itself. Moreover, epididymitis induced by different pathogenic microbial infections has different characteristics. This article elaborates on the distribution and immune response characteristics of epididymis immune cells, the role of epididymis epithelial cells (EECs), and the epididymis defense against different pathogenic infections (such as uropathogenic , and viruses to provide therapeutic approaches for epididymitis and its subsequent fertility problems.

Previous studies have suggested that the presence of human epididymal protein 4 (HE4) in pleural fluid can be used to diagnose malignant pleural effusion (MPE) with moderate accuracy. However, the factors that affect the diagnostic accuracy of HE4 remain unknown. This study aimed to examine how age and sex influence the diagnostic accuracy of HE4.

Purpose: To investigate the prognostic value of human epididymis protein 4 (HE4) in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI).

Patients And Methods: A total of 212 consecutive patients diagnosed with AMI in the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine of Hunan Provincial People's Hospital from June 2020 to May 2021 were enrolled. We determined plasma HE4 levels at baseline.

Background: Congenital hypothyroidism (CH) is a pathology that affects various organs, including the testicles. The mechanisms by which this condition alters fertility is unknown. This study aimed at determining if experimental CH affects gonocyte differentiation and arrests meiosis; and the possible role of the Sertoli cell (SC) in this condition.

Article Synopsis
  • White adipose tissue (WAT) in mice can undergo a transformation known as "browning" when exposed to cold, resulting in the emergence of brown and beige adipocytes, which have distinct characteristics like dense mitochondria and multilocular lipid droplets.
  • Research aimed to analyze the changes in diffusion parameters (T2* values and anisotropy) in brown adipose tissue (BAT), inguinal WAT (iWAT), and epididymal WAT (epiWAT) after cold exposure compared to normal conditions.
  • The study revealed that T2* values in the control group’s epiWAT were significantly higher than in BAT and iWAT from the cold-exposed group, while specific eigenvalues showed

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates how insoluble dietary fiber from Pleurotus ostreatus (POIDF) affects liver proteins and metabolites in obese rats, primarily through intestinal microbes.
  • POIDF was found to reduce body weight, improve organ health, and regulate lipid levels while enhancing gut bacteria related to lipid metabolism.
  • Metabolomics analysis indicated that POIDF also influences key liver protein expressions and various metabolic pathways, highlighting its potential for obesity treatment through gut microbiota degradation.
