The effective protocol for treating per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in water at environmentally relevant concentrations (∼ ng L) has received unprecedented attention due to the stringent drinking water standards. In order to ensure safe water treatment, sorption using quaternary ammonium functionalized strong-base anion exchange resins (SB-AERs) is considered a viable option for treating PFAS when compared to commercialized activated carbon, as SB-AERs can be in situ regenerated with long-term operation capabilities. However, the harsh conditions required for traditional direct synthesis of SB-AERs (such as prolonged reaction times, complex processes, and environmental pollution caused by the organic reagents used) limit their applications.

Naphthalene (NAP) was frequently detected in polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs)-contaminated soil, and its residues may pose an eco-toxicological threat to soil organisms. The toxic effects of NAP were closely tied to phenolic and quinone metabolites in biological metabolism. However, the present knowledge concerning the eco-toxicological impacts of NAP metabolites at the animal level is scanty.

In recent decades, extensive research has been directed toward mitigating microbial contamination and preventing biofilm formation. However, many conventional antibiofilm methods rely on hazardous and toxic substances, neglecting potential risks to human health and the environment. Moreover, these approaches often rely on single-strategy mechanisms, utilizing either bactericidal or fouling-resistant agents, which have shown limited efficacy in long-term biofilm suppression.

Athletes, both amateur and professional, often resort to the consumption of nutritional supplements without professional supervision and without being aware of the risks they may entail. We conducted an exhaustive literature search to determine the most common substances found as contaminants in dietary supplements. For each substance, we analyzed its mechanism of action, clinical indication, health risk, and putative use as doping agent.
