Small mammals and associated infections in China: a systematic review and spatial modelling analysis.

Lancet Reg Health West Pac

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Pathogen and Biosecurity, Academy of Military Medical Science, Beijing, PR China.

Background: As natural reservoirs of diverse pathogens, small mammals are considered a key interface for guarding public health due to their wide geographic distribution, high density and frequent interaction with humans.

Methods: All formally recorded natural occurrences of small mammals (Order: Rodentia, Eulipotyphla, Lagomorpha, and Scandentia) and their associated microbial infections in China were searched in the English and Chinese literature spanning from 1950 to 2021 and geolocated. Machine learning models were applied to determine ecological drivers for the distributions of 45 major small mammal species and two common rodent-borne diseases (RBDs), and model-predicted potential risk locations were mapped.

Background: In recent years, the increase of the post-transplantation diabetes mellitus (PTDM) after renal transplantation encourages people to do a lot of research on the disease. This paper conducted a bibliometric study on PTDM related literature to explore the risk factors of diabetes after kidney transplantation, as well as the current status, hotspots and development trends of PTDM research, so as to provide reference for researchers in related fields.

Methods: We searched the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database for PTDM literature from January 1, 1990, to August 20, 2023, and used VOSviewer, CiteSpace, and the R package 'bibliometrix' to do bibliometric analysis.

Objective: The purpose of this study is to analyse the changes in the equity of intensive care unit (ICU) bed allocation in 14 cities in China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region from 2018 to 2021, to identify the problems in the process of ICU bed allocation in China's ethnic minority regions.

Design: The Gini coefficient, Theil index, health resource density index, and spatial correlation analysis were used to analyse the current status of ICU bed resource allocation and allocation equity in Guangxi, China, on two dimensions: geography, and population.

Setting: The Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

Dung predicts the global distribution of herbivore grazing pressure in drylands.

Nat Food

January 2025

Laboratorio de Biodiversidad y Funcionamiento Ecosistémico, Instituto de Recursos Naturales y Agrobiología de Sevilla (IRNAS), CSIC, Sevilla, Spain.

Dryland grazing sustains millions of people worldwide but, when poorly managed, threatens food security. Here we combine livestock and wild herbivore dung mass data from surveys at 760 dryland sites worldwide, representing independent measurements of herbivory, to generate high-resolution maps. We show that livestock and wild herbivore grazing is globally disconnected, and identify hotspots of herbivore activity across Africa, the Eurasian grasslands, India, Australia and the United States.
