CIDEC/FSP27 exacerbates obesity-related abdominal aortic aneurysm by promoting perivascular adipose tissue inflammation.

Life Metab

February 2025

Shanghai Key Laboratory of Metabolic Remodeling and Health, Institute of Metabolism and Integrative Biology, Institutes of Biomedical Sciences, Fudan University, Shanghai 200438, China.

Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is strongly correlated with obesity, partially due to the abnormal expansion of abdominal perivascular adipose tissue (PVAT). Cell death-inducing DNA fragmentation factor-like effector C (CIDEC), also known as fat-specific protein 27 (FSP27) in rodents, is specifically expressed in adipose tissue where it mediates lipid droplet fusion and adipose tissue expansion. Whether and how CIDEC/FSP27 plays a role in AAA pathology remains elusive.

A comparative study of metformin and nicotinamide riboside in alleviating tissue aging in rats.

Life Med

February 2023

CAS Key Laboratory of Genomic and Precision Medicine, Beijing Institute of Genomics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing 100101, China.

Metformin (MET) and nicotinamide riboside (NR) have both been reported to exert geroprotective effects in multiple species. However, the mechanism by which MET and NR regulate the aging program and delay aging in multiple tissues remains unclear. Here, we demonstrated that MET and NR attenuate aging features in human mesenchymal stem cells.

A biomarker framework for cardiac aging: the Aging Biomarker Consortium consensus statement.

Life Med

October 2023

Department of Cardiology, The Second Medical Centre, Chinese PLA General Hospital, National Clinical Research Center for Geriatric Diseases, Beijing 100853, China.

Cardiac aging constitutes a significant risk factor for cardiovascular diseases prevalent among the elderly population. Urgent attention is required to prioritize preventive and management strategies for age-related cardiovascular conditions to safeguard the well-being of elderly individuals. In response to this critical challenge, the Aging Biomarker Consortium (ABC) of China has formulated an expert consensus on cardiac aging biomarkers.
