The activity of the right external abdominal oblique muscle, in relation to respiration, in newborn babies from 25 to 34 weeks' gestation was studied, using surface electrodes. Babies without respiratory difficulties showed no activity associated with respiration in these muscles. Grunting babies with respiratory disease showed pronounced activity during expiration. This activity continued when the babies were endotracheally intubated; if the babies were ventilated it sometimes disturbed the tidal ventilation delivered by the machines. When the baby expired during a ventilator inflation, so that gas came up the endotracheal tube against the inflating pressure, the abdominal oblique muscles contracted in 98% of the breaths.

Children with unilateral cerebral palsy (CP) exhibit abnormal movements due to atypical pelvic movements and weakness of trunk muscles. We investigated the effects of abdominal muscle strengthening and pelvic control exercises on trunk control, abdominal muscle thickness change rate, and pelvic movement in children with unilateral CP. Fourteen children with unilateral CP were randomly divided into two groups, and abdominal muscle strengthening and pelvic control exercises were applied to the experimental group, and general physical therapy was applied to the control group, 30 min per session, twice a week, for a total of 8 weeks, respectively.

A 61-year-old woman underwent an emergent operation with sigmoid colon cancer resection, colostomy, and ileostomy on colon perforation. The low ileostoma, caused by intra-abdominal bad conditions, had irritated the surrounding skin after surgery, intermittently forcing the patient to fast for a certain period. Six months after the operation, under the judgment that re-ileostomy, essential for hospital discharge, seemed very difficult through another laparotomy, we attempted to make the ileostoma higher not with pulling the ileum from the abdomen but with lowering the surrounding skin using skin flap formation techniques.

The skin of the Komodo dragon (Varanus komodoensis) is covered by a form of armour formed mainly of scales, which often co-occur with osteoderms. Scales are keratinized, non-mineralized structures in the uppermost layer of the epidermis that are in contact with each other to form a system in which individual scales are isolated from each other by a softer skin fold zone. In the Varanus, the surface of the scales is flat and smooth (thoracic limb, abdomen, and tail areas), domed and smooth (head area) or domed with conical ornamentation (dorsal surface, pelvic limb-dorsal surface areas).

Aim: There is a need to evaluate the tissue deformation index of lateral abdominal muscles using M-mode ultrasound in a cohort of healthy subjects to establish a convenient reference point for clinical reasoning in patients. The aim of the study was to assess differences in the tissue deformation index between individual lateral abdominal muscles regardless of body side, compare these differences in the tissue deformation index on the right and left sides of the body, and evaluate side-to-side differences in the tissue deformation index within individual lateral abdominal muscles.
Material And Methods: In a group of 126 healthy volunteers (59 females), the postural response of lateral abdominal muscles to external perturbation in the form of rapid arm abduction with load was recorded on both sides of the body, and the tissue deformation index was calculated.
