Associations of Faith Community Rejection with Social Support and Health Outcomes among LGBTQ+ Older Adults.

J Gerontol B Psychol Sci Soc Sci

January 2025

Department of Medicine, Health, and Society, Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tennessee, USA.

Objectives: Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) older adults have varied experiences with faith communities, ranging from affirmation to religious trauma. We investigate how faith community rejection impacts social support and health outcomes among LGBTQ+ older adults in the Southern United States.

Methods: We analyze Wave 1 data from the LGBTQ+ Social Networks, Aging, and Policy Study (QSNAPS), collected between April 2020 and September 2021.

Background: The Fontan procedure is a surgical intervention designed for patients with single ventricle physiology, wherein the systemic venous return is redirected into the pulmonary circulation, thereby facilitating passive pulmonary blood flow without the assistance of ventricular propulsion. Consequently, long-term follow-up of individuals who have undergone the asymptomatic Fontan procedure is essential.

Objectives: The aims of this investigation were to: 1) examine the impact of flow components and kinetic energy (KE) parameters on hemodynamic disturbances in asymptomatic Fontan patients and control group; 2) Assess left ventricular diastolic dysfunction through the analysis of 4D flow parameters across different Fontan sub-groups; 3) Compare intracardiac flow parameters among Fontan sub-groups based on morphological features of the left ventricle (LV) and right ventricle (RV).

Diverse sources of inhibition serve to modulate circuits and control cell assembly spiking across various timescales. For example, in hippocampus area CA1 the competition between inhibition and excitation organizes spike timing of pyramidal cells (PYR) in network events, including sharp wave-ripples (SPW-R). Specific cellular-synaptic sources of inhibition in SPW-R remain unclear, as there are >20 types of GABAergic interneurons in CA1.

Study Objectives: Sleep deficiency is associated with Alzheimer's disease (AD) pathogenesis. We examined the association of sleep architecture with anatomical features observed in AD: (1) atrophy of hippocampus, entorhinal, inferior parietal, parahippocampal, precuneus, and cuneus regions ("AD-vulnerable regions") and (2) cerebral microbleeds.

Methods: In 271 participants of the Atherosclerosis Risk in the Communities Study, we examined the association of baseline sleep architecture with anatomical features identified on brain MRI 13∼17 years later.
