Renal dysfunction is common in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM). Previous findings from a meta-analysis of GWAS indicated that the variation of is highly associated with the urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio (UACR) in European populations. In addition, knockout rats showed an increase in urinary albumins. Although the prevalence of chronic kidney disease is high in Taiwan, the role of genetic variants in diabetic renal function is still unclear. In the current study, 275 diabetic nephropathy (DN) patients were recruited to perform a genetic association study. Our results indicated that rs1027027, rs302647, and rs302646 in were significantly associated with urinary protein-to-creatinine ratio (UPCR) levels in DN patients. Importantly, after analysis stratified by gender, a significant genetic influence on UPCR levels was observed in the male population. The findings confirmed the roles of gender and variants of in the risk of UPCR in Diabetic Nephropathy patients.

Background/objectives: Myostatin, primarily produced by skeletal muscle, inhibits muscle growth and promotes protein degradation. It has been implicated in conditions such as obesity, insulin resistance, and cardiovascular disease. However, its association with endothelial function in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients remains unclear.

Background: Lupus nephritis (LN) is a major complication of systemic lupus erythematosus. Like other types of glomerulonephritis, podocyte injury has been observed in patients with LN. However, the association between podocyte injury and kidney prognosis in patients with LN has not been well elucidated.

Introduction: Standard treatment with cyclophosphamide (CP) or rituximab (RTX) is suboptimal. We adapted and used the low-dose regimen used in vasculitis (RTX 2 × 1000 mg, CP 1.5 mg/kg/d × 8 weeks, and prednisone [i.

Introduction: Experts have cautioned that assessment of proteinuria using urine protein-to-creatinine ratios (UPCRs) are not valid during acute kidney injury (AKI) because reduced urine creatinine in the denominator may artificially inflate the ratio. However, there is little empiric data assessing this theoretical concern.
Methods: Here, we retrospectively examined changes in UPCRs measured during episodes of severe AKI and assessed whether the magnitude and direction of these changes associate with how the serum creatinine level is changing at the time of UPCR collection.

Background: The objective of this analysis was to estimate the clinical and economic impact of undertaking urine albumin-to-creatinine ratio (UACR) testing alongside regular estimated glomerular filtration rate testing for chronic kidney disease in non-diabetic Japanese patients versus no testing and versus urine protein-creatinine ratio (UPCR) testing.
Methods: An economic model, taking a Japanese healthcare perspective, estimated the health-economic impact of UACR testing over a lifetime time horizon. Outcomes reported were additional costs, clinical benefits measured, such as prevented dialyses and cardiovascular events, quality-adjusted life years gained, and incremental cost-effectiveness ratios.
