A preterm neonate with type 1 retinopathy of prematurity in posterior zone II presented with hemorrhage in Berger's space immediately after intravitreal bevacizumab injection. The authors report a rare case of successful self-resolution and discuss the need for proper injection technique to prevent this complication. [J Pediatr Ophthalmol Strabismus. 2020;57:e71-e73.].

Science is crucial for evidence-based decision-making. Public trust in scientists can help decision makers act on the basis of the best available evidence, especially during crises. However, in recent years the epistemic authority of science has been challenged, causing concerns about low public trust in scientists.

Background: Variants in the mitochondrial genome (mtDNA) cause a diverse collection of mitochondrial diseases and have extensive phenotypic overlap with Mendelian diseases encoded on the nuclear genome. The mtDNA is often not specifically evaluated in patients with suspected Mendelian disease, resulting in overlooked diagnostic variants.
Methods: Using dedicated pipelines to address the technical challenges posed by the mtDNA - circular genome, variant heteroplasmy, and nuclear misalignment - single nucleotide variants, small indels, and large mtDNA deletions were called from exome and genome sequencing data, in addition to RNA-sequencing when available.

Nuclear speckles are dynamic nuclear bodies characterized by high concentrations of factors involved in RNA production. Although the contents of speckles suggest multifaceted roles in gene regulation, their biological functions are unclear. Here we investigate speckle variation in human cancer, finding two main signatures.

Background: Alemtuzumab can be an alternative to rabbit anti-thymocyte globulin (rATG) to treat severe or glucocorticoid-resistant acute T cell-mediated kidney transplant rejection (TCMR). Yet, there are few reports in which these two treatments are evaluated let alone, compared. This study describes the real-world clinical experience of both therapies and compares their efficacy and toxicity.

Long coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID) (LC) symptoms including pain and autonomic dysfunction are in some patients associated with small-fiber neuropathy (SFN). The pathomechanisms underlying SFN are mostly unclear. Natural killer (NK) cells play a crucial role in immune regulation, viral clearance and nerve metabolism.
