Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) are of increasing interest for their unique properties and their biocompatability, minimal toxicity, multivalency and size tunability make them exciting drug carriers. The functionalisaton of AuNPs with targeting moieties allows for their selective delivery to cancers, with antibodies, proteins, peptides, aptamers, carbohydrates and small molecules all exploited. Here, we review the recent advances in targeted-AuNPs for the treatment of cancer, with a particular focus on these classes of targeting ligands. We highlight the benefits and potential drawbacks of each ligand class and propose directions in which the field could grow.
MicroRNAs (miRNAs) regulate a myriad of biological processes and thus have been regarded as useful biomarkers in biomedical research and clinical diagnosis. The specific and highly sensitive detection of miRNAs is of significant importance. Herein, a sensitive and rapid dual-amplification elemental labeling single-particle inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (spICP-MS) analytical method based on strand displacement amplification (SDA) and CRISPR/Cas12a was developed for miRNA-21 detection.
In this study, we introduce an synthesis technique for incorporating gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) into a magnetic nanocomposite made of glucosamine and alginate (GluN/Alg) ionotropic gelation. GluN acted as a reducing agent for gold ions, leading to the formation of AuNPs which embedded in the nanocomposite FeO@GluN/Alg. Analytical techniques confirmed the crystallite structure of the nanocomposite AuNPs/FeO@GluN/Alg, which had an average size of 30-40 nm.

Porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) and porcine rotavirus (PoRV) are the two main pathogens causing porcine diarrhea, which are characterized by high morbidity and mortality. Most of the diagnostic methods available are limited to the laboratory or fail to highlight their advantages in terms of target species, detection time, sensitivity, and stability. To meet the demand for rapid on-site diagnosis of PEDV and PoRV co-infection, a surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) immunochromatographic sensor based on gold magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) was developed.
Introduction: Breast cancer, a formidable global health challenge for women, necessitates innovative therapeutic strategies with enhanced efficacy and minimal side effects. Aripiprazole (ARI), a widely used schizophrenia medication, exhibits promising potential in the treatment of breast cancer. As cancer therapy evolves towards a combination approach, multimodal nano-based delivery systems, such as ARI-loaded niosomes (NIOs) combined with Chitosan-Au nanoparticles for chemo-photothermal therapy, show promise over traditional chemotherapy alone by enhancing targeted efficacy and minimizing side effects.
The present study introduces a minimalistic and cost-effective approach to synthesising Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) using aqueous leaf extracts of Andrographis paniculata. In this synthesis, bioactive metabolites in the leaf extract act as reducing agents, converting Au³⁺ ions to metallic Au⁰, while proteins in the extract form a stabilising layer around the nanoparticles to prevent agglomeration and maintain particle size stability. The synthesised AuNPs were systematically characterised using a range of analytical techniques.
