A new highly oxygenated germacranolide, carcerlane A (), together with four known highly oxygenated germacranolides (-), was isolated from an ethanol extract of the whole plant of var. (C.B.Clarke) Kitam. The structures were determined by HRESIMS and extensive analysis of their spectroscopic data including IR, 1 D and 2 D NMR spectra. To our best knowledge, it was the first time to report the phytochemical investigation on this plant. The anti-Alzheimer's disease (AD) activities of - were evaluated using AD pathological model. All the tested compounds showed that they have the anti-AD bioactivities of delaying worms paralysis.

The SARS-CoV-2 virus that resulted in the COVID-19 pandemic has been implicated in a range of neurological issues, such as encephalopathy, stroke, and cognitive decline. Although the precise mechanism causing these issues is unknown, mounting evidence shows that blood-brain barrier (BBB) disruption is probable2 a major factor. The integrity of the blood-brain barrier (BBB), a highly selective barrier that divides the brain from the systemic circulation, is crucial for preserving normal brain function.

Nonporous TiO@C microsphere with a highly integrated structure for high volumetric lithium storage and enhance initial coulombic efficiency.

Sci Rep

December 2024

Shandong Engineering Research Center of Green and High-value Marine Fine Chemical, Weifang University of Science and Technology, Shouguang, 262700, People's Republic of China.

To enhance the volumetric energy density and initial coulombic efficiency (ICE) of titanium oxide (TiO) as anode electrode material for lithium-ion batteries (LIB), this study employed a surface-confined in-situ inter-growth mechanism to prepare a TiO embedded carbon microsphere composite. The results revealed that the composite exhibited a highly integrated structure of TiO with oxygen vacancies and carbon, along with an exceptionally small specific surface area of 11.52 m/g.

The synergistic activation of gaseous oxygen and surface lattice oxygen is essential for designing highly efficient catalysts to eliminate VOCs. Herein, an effective acid treatment was carried out to create more oxygen vacancies by modulating the electronic structure of MgMnO spinels and MgMnO mixed oxides. The acid-treated MgMnO exhibited outstanding catalytic performance, with the reaction rate of benzene rising by 8.

Key Laboratory for Liquid-Solid Structural Evolution & Processing of Materials (Ministry of Education), School of Materials Science and Engineering, Shandong University, Jinan, Shandong, 250061, PR China. Electronic address:

Chronic diabetic wound poses a pressing global healthcare challenge, necessitating an approach to address issues such as pathogenic bacteria elimination, blood sugar regulation, and angiogenesis stimulation. Herein, we engineered a BiWO@CuO-GOx bio-heterojunction (BWCG bio-HJ) with exceptional cascade catalytic performance and impressive sonosensitivity to remodel the wound microenvironment and expedite the diabetic wound healing. Specifically, the Z-scheme junctions of BiWO@CuO significantly augmented carrier separation dynamics, leading to the highly efficient generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) upon US irradiations.

Nitrate-Photolysis Shortens the Lifetimes of Brown Carbon Tracers from Biomass Burning.

Environ Sci Technol

December 2024

State Ecology and Environment Scientific Observation and Research Station for the Yangtze River Delta at Dianshan Lake, Shanghai Environmental Monitoring Center, Shanghai 200030, China.

Biomass burning is an important source of brown carbon (BrC) aerosols, which influence climate by affecting the Earth's radiative balance. However, the transformation pathways of BrC chromophores, especially in the presence of photochemically active species, such as nitrate, are not well understood. In this study, the nitrate-mediated aqueous-phase photooxidation of three typical BrC chromophores from biomass burning was investigated, including 4-nitrocatechol, 3-nitrosalicylic acid, and 3,4-dinitrophenol.
