Purpose Of Review: The thick ascending limb (TAL) of loop of Henle is essential for NaCl, calcium and magnesium homeostasis, pH balance and for urine concentration. NKCC2 is the main transporter for NaCl reabsorption in the TAL and its regulation is very complex. There have been recent advancements toward understanding how NKCC2 is regulated by protein trafficking, protein-protein interaction, and phosphorylation/dephosphorylation.

These fluids are the result of multiple tissues and cell types and contain extensive, highly complex, and dynamic protein populations that reflect both the transcriptional program of the originating cells and a record of the individual's health status. Body fluids are readily accessible to clinicians and researchers, and as such proteomic analyses are an important component of clinical studies, fertility studies, oral health studies, and forensic investigations.

Uromonitor and urinary telomerase reverse transcriptase promoter mutation droplet digital PCR (uTERTpm ddPCR) are non-invasive tests designed to detect bladder cancer in urine. We aimed to compare the diagnostic performance of uTERTpm ddPCR, Uromonitor and urine cytology in detecting bladder cancer. Urine samples were collected prospectively from patients diagnosed with primary (n = 74) and recurrent bladder cancer (n = 20) or benign urological conditions (n = 48) prior to surgical resection.

Objectives: Urinalysis is widely used and is also frequently requested in emergency situations for screening hypovolemia, urinary tract infections, diabetes, ketoacidosis and hematuria. Our aim was to evaluate the impact of reporting urinary sediment in emergency department specimens with the Sysmex UN system.

Methods: We evaluated urinalyses requested by the emergency department over a three-month period and examined red blood cell count interference, compared leukocyte esterase dipsticks to cytofluorimetric leukocyte count and nitrites to cytofluorimetric bacterial count.
