This study aims to demonstrate the effect of gamma knife radiosurgery (GKRS) on symptoms, hemorrhage rates, and histopathological changes in patients with cavernous malformations (CMs), regardless of whether the symptomatic lesions are hemorrhagic. This single-center retrospective study evaluated symptomatic patients with single CMs treated with GKRS between 2016 and 2023. The patients' demographic data, presenting symptoms, GKRS radiation dose, complications developed during follow-up (hemorrhage, radiotoxicity), the rate of symptom improvement, and histopathological changes of surgically removed CMs were recorded.

Background: The prevalence of brain metastases (BM) in lung cancer patients is notably high and is associated with poor prognoses. The efficacy of standard treatment regimens in improving intracranial progression-free survival (IPFS) for lung cancer BM is markedly limited. While traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has been effective in enhancing the quality of life and prognosis of lung cancer patients, its efficacy in treating BM remains unreported.

Background: Multiple system atrophy-cerebellar subtype (MSA-C) is a predominance of cerebellar ataxia and autonomic failure. MSA-C has a rapid progression, with average 9 years from symptom onset to death. Despite its prevalence, there is still a lack of effective treatments.

Alpha/beta values in pediatric medulloblastoma: implications for tailored approaches in radiation oncology.

Radiat Oncol

January 2025

Department of Radiotherapy and Radiooncology, Medical Faculty, Heinrich Heine University, Moorenstr. 5, 40225, Dusseldorf, Germany.

Background: Medulloblastoma is the most common malignant pediatric brain tumor, typically treated with normofractionated craniospinal irradiation (CSI) with an additional boost over about 6 weeks in children older than 3 years. This study investigates the sensitivity of pediatric medulloblastoma cell lines to different radiation fractionation schedules. While extensively studied in adult tumors, these ratios remain unknown in pediatric cases due to the rarity of the disease.

Histone bivalency in CNS development.

Genes Dev

January 2025

Laboratory of Developmental Neurobiology, The Rockefeller University, New York, New York 10065, USA;

Neuronal maturation is guided by changes in the chromatin landscape that control developmental gene expression programs. Histone bivalency, the co-occurrence of activating and repressive histone modifications, has emerged as an epigenetic feature of developmentally regulated genes during neuronal maturation. Although initially associated with early embryonic development, recent studies have shown that histone bivalency also exists in differentiated and mature neurons.
