Hernia through a defect of the broad ligament is extremely rare in children. These defects can result from a developmental defect or a spontaneous rupture of cystic formations remnants of mesonephric ducts or Müller. Genital anomalies associated with unilateral renal agenesis are more common in females.

Carotid rete mirabile (CRM) is a physiological network between the external carotid artery (ECA) and internal carotid artery (ICA) in lower mammals. It is a transdural arterial network centered at the parasellar area, in anatomical localization of intracavernous or petrous segment of ICA, associated with hypoplasia or absence of the cervical or petrous segment of ICA. It clinically presents as hemorrhagic or ischemic cerebrovascular disorder.

Osteogenesis distraction is an increasingly used technique for the correction of facial deformities because it offers a faster and more controlled growth of the hypoplasic bone along with the elongation of the soft tissues. In this article, we describe the technique and our experience in midface distraction using an external multivectoral distraction device (BLUE Device; W. Lorenz, Jacksonville, FL) and custom-made midface osteotomies for the correction of severe hypoplasia.
