A novel approach for the online coupling of solid-phase microextraction (SPME) and liquid chromatography (LC) is introduced. An innovative Si@GO@βCD coated needle-sleeve extractant device was developed and then employed in the automated online SPME-LC-UV determination of estrogen-like isoflavones from human urine samples. The extractant SPME device is easily attachable at the endpoint of an analytical syringe needle and operated by a lab-made autosampler. Fully automated online SPME-LC is accomplished by proper autosampler programming to perform the following steps: i) the analytes extraction by direct immersion of the extractant device into the stirred sample, ii) a rinsing step iii) the analytes desorption/enrichment, iv) the online transference of the extract to the LC injection valve. Besides allowing the online SPME hyphenation, this extraction modality efficiently addressed the drawbacks associated with the clogging and dispersion of graphene-based microextraction techniques performed in packed-bed and dispersive formats. The main extraction parameters and the performance of the automated online SPME-LC method developed were carefully studied. The results show a good sensitivity, reliability, and straightforward analytical strategy for the determination of organic compounds in complex samples. The detection limit of the method was 20 μg L for DAI and 10 μg L for GEN, FOR and BIO. The intra-day RSD was below 10% and inter-day RSD was below 13%. The total analysis time was less than 17 min per sample.

Mass spectrometry (MS) has become a critical tool in the characterization of covalently modified nucleic acids. Well-developed bottom-up approaches, where nucleic acids are digested with an endonuclease and the resulting oligonucleotides are separated before MS and MS/MS analysis, provide substantial insight into modified nucleotides in biological and synthetic nucleic. Top-down MS presents an alternative approach where the entire nucleic acid molecule is introduced to the mass spectrometer intact and then fragmented by MS/MS.

The core of this publication is the design of a system for evaluating the condition of production equipment and machines by monitoring selected parameters of the production process with an additional sensor subsystem. The main positive of the design is the processing of data from the sensor layer using artificial intelligence (AI) and expert systems (ESs) with the use of edge computing (EC). Sensor information is processed directly at the sensor level on the monitored equipment, and the results of the individual subsystems are stored in the form of triggers in a database for use in the predictive maintenance process.

Assessing whether texts are positive or negative-sentiment analysis-has wide-ranging applications across many disciplines. Automated approaches make it possible to code near unlimited quantities of texts rapidly, replicably, and with high accuracy. Compared to machine learning and large language model (LLM) approaches, lexicon-based methods may sacrifice some in performance, but in exchange they provide generalizability and domain independence, while crucially offering the possibility of identifying gradations in sentiment.

Unlabelled: Collecting data and logging behaviors of clients who have autism spectrum disorder (ASD) during applied behavior analysis (ABA) therapy sessions can be challenging in real time, especially when the behaviors require a rapid response, like self-injury or aggression. Little information is available about the automation of data collection in ABA therapy, such as through machine learning (ML). Our survey of ABA therapists nationally revealed mixed levels of familiarity with ML and generally neutral responses to statements endorsing the benefits of ML.

Introduction: Recruitment of participants for intervention studies is challenging. We evaluated the effectiveness and efficiency of a participant recruitment campaign through an online registry for the FINGER-NL study, a multi-domain lifestyle intervention trial targeting cognitively healthy individuals aged 60-79 with dementia prevention potential. Additionally, we explored which recruitment strategy successfully reached individuals from underrepresented groups in research.
