We present a computational scheme for restricted-active-space configuration interaction (RASCI) calculations combined with second-order perturbation theory (RASCI-PT2) on a fragment of a periodic system embedded in the periodic Hartree-Fock (HF) wave function. This method allows one to calculate the electronic structure of localized strongly correlated features in crystals and surfaces. The scheme was implemented via an interface between the and codes. To evaluate the performance of the embedding method, we explored dissociation of a fluorine atom from a lithium fluoride surface and partially fluorinated graphane layer. The results show that RASCI and RASCI-PT2 embedded in periodic HF are able to produce well-behaved potential energy surfaces and accurate dissociation energies.

Athletes in collision sports frequently sustain repetitive head impacts (RHI), which, while not individually severe enough for a clinical mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) diagnosis, can compromise neuronal organization by transferring mechanical energy to the brain. Although numerous studies target athletes with mTBI, there is a lack of longitudinal research on young collision sport participants, highlighting an unaddressed concern regarding cumulative RHI effects on brain microstructures. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the microstructural changes in the brains' of high school rugby players due to repeated head impacts and to establish a correlation between clinical symptoms, cumulative effects of RHI exposure, and changes in the brain's microstructure.

Limited by the two mutually exclusive physicochemical processes of separation and recombination of photogenerated carriers, achieving photoluminescence and photocatalysis simultaneously is extremely challenging but essential for ever-growing complex issues and specialized scenarios. Here we proposed a biomimetic isolation-conduction strategy induced by an arene-perfluoroarene (A-P) interaction for enabling photoluminescence and photocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) activity in the co-assembly of aromatic monomers and octafluoronapthalene (OFN). Inspired by the isolation-conduction effect of periodic isolation of myelin sheaths on the axons of vertebrate nerve fibers by node of Ranvier, we use OFN as a molecular isolator embedded in the aromatic monomers array to block the singlet-to-triplet pathway, while the enlarged intermolecular dipoles resulting from the A-P interactions facilitate the conduction of photogenerated carriers in the isolated regions.
