People living with HIV are at an increased risk of developing cognitive deficits. Physical exercise is an important strategy to improve the brain health of people living with HIV. This randomized, controlled study aimed to investigate the acute effect of a single resistance exercise session on the cognitive function of people living with HIV. Twenty-three people living with HIV were randomized (1:1) to a control group (n = 12) or the exercise group (n = 11). Cognitive function was assessed by the Stroop test and the Trail Making Test. The exercise group was evaluated before and after the exercise session; meanwhile, the control group was evaluated before and after a 40-minute rest period. No statistical difference was found on the effect of exercise on cognitive function ( > 0.05). This result suggests that one session of resistance exercise was not capable of improving the cognitive function of people with HIV.

Hereditary fructose intolerance (HFI) is characterized by liver damage and a secondary defect in N-linked glycosylation due to impairment of mannose phosphate isomerase (MPI). Mannose treatment has been shown to be an effective treatment in a primary defect in MPI (i.e.

Long-term training enables professional athletes to develop concentrated and efficient neural network organizations for specific tasks. This study used functional near-infrared spectroscopy to investigate task performance, brain functional characteristics, and their relationships in footballers during sport-specific motor-cognitive processes. Twenty-four footballers (athlete group, with 18 remaining of good signal quality) and 20 non-footballers (control group, with 16 remaining) completed four tasks: a single task (trigger buttons corresponding to the appearance direction of teammates with kicking actions), an N-back direction task, a dual task, and an N-back digit task.

Objective: Among patients with acute stroke, we aimed to identify those who will later develop central post-stroke pain (CPSP) versus those who will not (non-pain sensory stroke [NPSS]) by assessing potential differences in somatosensory profile patterns and evaluating their potential as predictors of CPSP.
Methods: In a prospective longitudinal study on 75 acute stroke patients with somatosensory symptoms, we performed quantitative somatosensory testing (QST) in the acute/subacute phase (within 10 days) and on follow-up visits for 12 months. Based on previous QST studies, we hypothesized that QST values of cold detection threshold (CDT) and dynamic mechanical allodynia (DMA) would differ between CPSP and NPSS patients before the onset of pain.

Delirium is an acute decline or fluctuation in attention, awareness, or other cognitive function that can lead to serious adverse outcomes. Despite the severe outcomes, delirium is frequently unrecognized and uncoded in patients' electronic health records (EHRs) due to its transient and diverse nature. Natural language processing (NLP), a key technology that extracts medical concepts from clinical narratives, has shown great potential in studies of delirium outcomes and symptoms.
