The impurity of salicylic acid (SA) in aspirin is a required inspection item for drug quality control. Since free SA is significantly toxic for humans, the content determination of free SA is absolutely necessary to ensure people's health. In this work, a facile colorimetric method was developed for the detection of SA in aspirin by utilizing the MIL-53(Fe) nanozyme. As MIL-53(Fe) possesses enzyme mimicking catalytic activity, 3,3,5,5-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) can be easily oxidized to blue-oxidized TMB (oxTMB) with the existence of HO. Moreover, an inhibition effect on the catalytic activity of the MIL-53(Fe) nanozyme is induced due to the specific complexation between SA and Fe in the center of MIL-53(Fe), which results in a lighter color in the oxTMB. The color change of oxTMB can be seen easily by the naked eye with the addition of different concentrations of SA. Thus, a simple colorimetric platform was established for effectively monitoring SA. A good linear relationship ( = 0.9990) was obtained in the concentration range of 0.4-28 μmol L, and the detection limit was 0.26 μmol L. In particular, the rationally designed system has been well-applied to the detection of SA impurity in aspirin. Satisfyingly, the detection results are highly in accord with those of HPLC. This novel colorimetric platform broadens the application prospects of nanozymes in the field of pharmaceutical analysis.

Herein, a novel approach to the controlled formation of chitosan-Ag nanocomposites (NCs) with different structures and tunable chemical/biological properties was proposed. The chitosan-Ag NCs were obtained using hydrothermal synthesis and varying the concentrations of components. The hypothesis of chitosan-Ag NC synthesis using polysaccharide coils as a "microreactor" system was confirmed.

The intricacy, diversity, and heterogeneity of cancers make research focus on developing multimodal synergistic therapy strategies. Herein, an oxygen (O) self-feeding peroxisomal lactate oxidase (LOX)-based LOX-Ce6-Mn (LCM) was synthesized using a biomineralization approach, which was used for cascade chemodynamic therapy (CDT)/photodynamic therapy (PDT) combination therapies through dual depletion of lactate (Lac) and reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation. After endocytosis into tumor cells, the endogenous hydrogen peroxide (HO) can be converted to O by the catalase-like (CAT) activity of LCM, which can facilitate the catalytic reaction of LOX to consume more Lac and alleviate tumor hypoxia to enhance the generation of singlet oxygen (O) upon light irradiation.

Bacterial keratitis (BK) is a type of corneal inflammation resulting from bacterial infection in the eye. Although nanozymes have been explored as promising materials in corneal wound healing, currently available nanozymes lack sufficient catalytic activity and the ability to penetrate bacterial biofilms, limiting their efficacy against the treatment of BK. To remedy this, ZnFe layered double hydroxide (ZnFe-LDH) nanosheets are loaded with Cu single-atom nanozymes (Cu-SAzymes) and aminated dextran (Dex-NH), resulting in the formation of the nanozyme DT-ZnFe-LDH@Cu, which possesses peroxidase (POD)-, oxidase (OXD)-, and catalase (CAT)-like catalytic activities.

The excessive use of organophosphorus pesticides poses a substantial threat to both human health and the environment. Consequently, there is an urgent need for new methods that can quickly degrade and sensitively detect these compounds. A versatile nanozyme based on the biomimetic principle is an effective strategy to solve this problem.
