The genus Litophyton Forskål, 1775 (Octocorallia: Alcyonacea: Nephtheidae) from Australia.

Zootaxa

Vrijheidslaan 54, 2321 DL Leiden, The Netherlands..

Published: April 2020

The Litophyton species of Australia are described. Of the 33 species dealt with three were previously described and 30 are considered new. For convenience the species described are divided into five distinct morphological groups. The new species are compared with previously described species from neighbouring Indonesia. L. pyramidalis (Kükenthal, 1895) is synonymized with L. elongatum (Kükenthal, 1895).

Dynamically interconvertible metallo-supramolecular multicomponent assemblies, coexisting orthogonally in solution, serve as simplified mimics for complex networks found in biological systems. Building on recent advances in controlling the nonstatistical self-assembly of heteroleptic coordination cages and heteromeric completive self-sorting, i.e.

Hybridisation is a source of genetic diversity, can drive adaptation to new niches and has been found to be a frequent event in lineages harbouring pathogenic fungi. However, little is known about the genomic implications of hybridisation nor its impact on pathogenicity-related traits. A common limitation for addressing these questions is the narrow representativity of sequenced genomes, mostly corresponding to strains isolated from infected patients.

The anatomical innovation of sound-producing organs, which gives rise to a wide variety of sound signals, is one of the most fundamental factors leading to the explosive speciation of modern birds. Despite being a key clue to resolving the homology of sound-controlling muscles among birds, only few studies have explored the embryonic development of syringeal muscles. Using serial histological sections and immunohistochemistry, we described the three-dimensional anatomy and development of the cartilage, muscle, and innervation pattern of the tracheobronchi in three avian species: domestic fowls, cockatiels, and zebra finches.

Lack of context modulation in human single neuron responses in the medial temporal lobe.

In subjects implanted with intracranial electrodes, we use two different stories involving the same person (or place) to evaluate whether and to what extent context modulates human single-neuron responses. Nearly all neurons (97% during encoding and 100% during recall) initially responding to a person/place do not modulate their response with context. Likewise, nearly none (<1%) of the initially non-responsive neurons show conjunctive coding, responding to particular persons/places in a particular context during the tasks.

Four new species of Simon, 1884 (Araneae, Linyphiidae) from Jiangjin District of Chongqing, China.

Zookeys

December 2024

Key Laboratory of Eco-environments in Three Gorges Reservoir Region (Ministry of Education), School of Life Sciences, Southwest University, Chongqing 400715, China.

Four new species of the genus Simon, 1884 are described from Jiangjin, Chongqing: (♂), (♂♀), (♂♀), and (♂♀). The new species exhibit distinctive genital features, such as a bifurcated embolus tip in the male palp of and , and embolus tip unbifurcated in The epigynes display more unique characteristics, such as epigynal plate with a pit ventrally on its frontal face in and , which is absent in all other known species. Detailed descriptions, along with photographs of genital characters, somatic features, and a distribution map, are provided.
