Members of the genus Albunea Weber, 1795 (family Albuneidae) are commonly known as sand crabs. Albuneidae contains 59 species belonging to 13 genera (Boyko McLaughlin 2010; WoRMS 2019), of which four genera and nine species are known only as fossils. Most species are relatively uncommon and adapted to living in sandy habitats (Boyko Harvey 1999). Among the 24 species of Albunea, four are known only as fossils (WoRMS 2019). The diversity and distributions of most albuneids were reported by Boyko (2002, 2010).

Echinococcus granulosus is a zoonotic dog parasite, which causes cystic echinococcosis in humans and animals, adversely affecting health and food production. The resultant socio-economic impacts in lower-middle-income countries and the paucity of epidemiology data prompted the World Health Organization to classify cystic echinococcosis as a neglected tropical disease. Between November 2019 and December 2020, the prevalence of cystic echinococcosis was assessed from 3600 post-slaughter livestock (1142 sheep, 1258 goats and 1200 buffalo) from three districts, Narowal, Sheikhupura and Sialkot, in Northern Punjab, Pakistan.

Heavy metal pollution is a growing environmental concern as it causes the degradation of wetlands by affecting the organisms at different trophic levels. Shorebirds typically feed on benthic invertebrates including polychaete worms, crustaceans and molluscs. Thus, the assessment of bioconcentration of heavy metals in shorebirds provides an insight into the extent of bioaccumulation of these hazardous metals in the upper trophic levels.

Background: The Expanded Special Project for the Elimination of Neglected Tropical Diseases (ESPEN) was launched in 2019 by the World Health Organization and African nations to combat Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs), including Soil-transmitted helminths (STH), which still affect over 1.5 billion people globally. In this study, we present a comprehensive geostatistical analysis of publicly available STH survey data from ESPEN to delineate inter-country disparities in STH prevalence and its environmental drivers while highlighting the strengths and limitations that arise from the use of the ESPEN data.
