A new species of Bessierus Thomas Orth, formerly a monotypic genus, is described from Amapá State, Brazil. The type species of the genus, B. doloris Thomas Orth, had only its nymphs described until recently, when its male imago was associated to nymphs mainly based on pigmentation pattern. Bessierus riobranco sp. n. here described has no significant difference on pigmentation pattern from B. doloris, thus the new species could be the male imago of B. doloris, and the putative imago of B. doloris a new species, or even both described imagoes could be new species. Still, a new male imago existence cannot be neglected and we opted to provide a properly description, diagnosis and illustration, hence contributing to the knowledge of mayfly neotropical diversity and future research on the genus. The generic concept of Bessierus and its type species diagnoses are altered to accommodate the new species, and a new record of B. doloris is provided.

Article Synopsis
  • The study revises the genus Glyptobasis of owlfly species specifically from India and nearby regions, focusing on two key species, G. dentifera and G. nigrifrons, which are redescribed using new specimens from Kerala.
  • Lectotypes for G. dentifera and G. spinicornis are established after comparing them with existing type specimens, while G. denticornis is identified as a new synonym of G. spinicornis.
  • A comprehensive key to six species is included, detailing their distribution and flight periods based on existing literature.

In this article I continue to publish the data obtained as a result of the revision of the subfamily Diamesinae, namely of the genus Pseudokiefferiella Zavřel, 1941. As we noted earlier (Makarchenko & Semenchenko 2023), before the start of molecular genetic study this genus was considered as monotypic, that is, with one species of Ps. parva (Edwards) in Holarctic region (Ashe & O'Connor 2009).

Museu de Entomologia ; Departamento de Entomologia; Universidade Federal de Viçosa; 36570-900; Viçosa; MG; Brazil.

The male imago of Americabaetis titthion is described for the first time. It can be distinguished from other male imagos of the genus by the following combination of characteristics: turbinate portion of the eyes with upper surface ellipsoidal and separated by approximately the width of a lateral ocellus; costal area of fore wings tinged with reddish-brown; presence of pairs of soft, setose protuberances on the meso- and metasternum; subgenital plate slightly concave; forceps with segment I/II slightly tapering medioapically. Supplementary descriptions for the nymph and female imago are provided, as well as the first description of the eggs of a species of the genus.
