Nanostructured SbO thin films have been deposited onto glass substrates by using the chemical spray pyrolysis technique, and the effect of precursor solution volume on the physical properties was investigated for the first time. The prepared films were characterized in detail by using x-ray diffraction, field-emission scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive x-ray analysis (FESEM-EDAX), UV-vis absorption and transmission spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy analysis and electrical resistivity measurement. X-ray diffraction analysis shows that the senarmontite cubic phase is completely transferred to the valentinite orthorhombic phase as the precursor solution volume is increased. This phase transformation as a function of precursor volume is discussed in detail. The FESEM-EDAX analysis reconfirms the phase change showing well-defined nano-dimensional cubic hexagonal and orthorhombic octahedral morphologies with excellent stoichiometry. The optical property studies show that the bandgap energy of SbO varies from 3.43-3.98 eV as a function of precursor quantity. The as-grown SbO thin films are semiconducting in nature. The measured values of electrical resistivity and activation energy are found to be dependent on the spray solution volume. The electrical resistivity of deposited SbO thin films shows variation from 26.15 × 10-34.27 × 10 Ω cm and the activation energy of the films is in the order of 0.763-0.773 eV.

Anisotropic carrier transport and deep-level defect of antimony selenosulfide (Sb(S,Se)) absorber are two vital auses restraining the photovoltaic performance of this emerging thin-film solar cell. Herein, chelate engineering is proposed to prepare high-quality Sb(S,Se) film based on hydrothermal deposition approach, which realizes desirable carrier transport and passivated defects by using tetrahedral PO ion in dibasic sodium phosphate (NaHPO, DSP). The PO Lewis structure, on one hand in the form of [(SbO)(PO)] chelate, can adsorb on the polar planes of cadmium sulfide (CdS) layer, promoting the heterogeneous nucleation, and on the other hand, the tetrahedral PO inhibits horizontal growth of (SbS(e)) ribbons due to size effects, thus achieving desirable [hk1] orientation.

In extended solid-state materials, the manipulation of chemical bonds through redox reactions often leads to the emergence of interesting properties, such as unconventional superconductivity, which can be achieved by adjusting the Fermi level through, , intercalation and pressure. Here, we demonstrate that the internal 'biaxial strain' in tri-layered fluorite oxychloride photocatalysts can regulate bond formation and cleavage without redox processes. We achieve this by synthesizing the isovalent solid solution Bi Sb YOCl, which undergoes a structural phase transition from the ideal BiYOCl structure to the SbYOCl structure with (Bi,Sb)O rings.

Layered honeycomb cobaltates are predicted as promising for realizing the Kitaev quantum spin liquid, a many-body quantum entangled ground state characterized by fractional excitations. However, they exhibit antiferromagnetic ordering at low temperatures, hindering the expected quantum state. We demonstrate that controlling the trigonal distortion of CoO octahedra is crucial to suppress antiferromagnetic order through enhancing frustration in layered honeycomb cobaltates.

Nanoscale superlattice (SL) structures have proven to be effective in enhancing the thermoelectric (TE) properties of thin films. Herein, the main phase of antimony telluride (Sb Te ) thin film with sub-nanometer layers of antimony oxide (SbO ) is synthesized via atomic layer deposition (ALD) at a low temperature of 80 °C. The SL structure is tailored by varying the cycle numbers of Sb Te and SbO .

Acute small bowel obstruction (SBO) is a common cause of emergency department visits in the United States, and it accounts for approximately 20% of emergency surgical operations. Its etiology is divided into intrinsic luminal obstruction or extrinsic compression of the bowel. Among the causes of SBO, by far the most common is intraperitoneal adhesions due to previous abdominal surgeries, which comprises about 60-70% of the cases.
