The present era is witnessing rapid advancements in the field of medical informatics and modern healthcare management. The role of translational bioinformatics (TBI), an infant discipline in the field of medical informatics, is pivotal in this revolution. The development of high-throughput technologies [e.g., microarrays, next-generation sequencing (NGS)] has propelled TBI to the next stage in this modern era of medical informatics. In this review, we assess the promising translational outcomes of microarray- and NGS-based discovery of genes, proteins, micro RNAs, and other active biological compounds aiding in the diagnosis, prognosis, and therapy of prostate cancer (PCa) to improve treatment strategies at the localized and/or metastatic stages in patients. Several promising candidate biomarkers in circulating blood (miR-25-3p and miR-18b-5p), urine (miR-95, miR-21, miR-19a, and miR-19b), and prostatic secretions (miR-203) have been identified. AURKA and MYCN, novel candidate biomarkers, were found to be specifically expressed in neuroendocrine PCa. The use of BTNL2 gene mutations and inflammasomes as biomarkers in immune function-mediated, inherited PCa has also been elucidated based on NGS data. Although TBI discoveries can benefit clinical performance metrics, the translational potential and the in vivo performance of TBI outcomes need to be verified. In conclusion, TBI aids in the effective clinical management of PCa; furthermore, the fate of personalized/precision medicine mostly relies on the enhanced diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic potential of TBI.

Background: Racial and ethnic disparities in health care delivery can lead to inadequate peripartum pain management and associated adverse maternal outcomes. An epidural blood patch (EBP) is the definitive treatment for moderate to severe postdural puncture headache (PDPH), a potentially debilitating neuraxial anesthesia complication associated with significant maternal morbidity if undertreated. In this nationwide study, we examine the racial and ethnic disparities in the inpatient utilization of EBP after obstetric PDPH in the United States.

Two methods were tested using a broad range of ω and standardized effect sizes δ. A noncentral t (NCt) CI used with normally distributed data had coverages that were nominal at narrow widths but were slightly inflated at wider widths.

Courses of SARS-CoV-2 infections are highly variable, ranging from asymptomatic to lethal COVID-19. Though research has shown that host genetic factors contribute to this variability, cohort-based joint analyses of variants from the entire allelic spectrum in individuals with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infections are still lacking. Here, we present the results of whole genome sequencing in 1,220 mainly vaccine-naïve individuals with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection, including 827 hospitalized COVID-19 cases.

Objective: Aim: To assess the effectiveness of updated curricula in developing digital competence and enhancing the use of information and communication technologies in healthcare at the undergraduate and post-diploma levels of nursing education.
Patients And Methods: Materials and Methods: The updated 'Digigram for Healthcare Professionals' test tool, consisting of 75 questions, was utilized to assess the digital competence of 90 students and 136 practicing nurses before and after training in the Health Informatics curricula, updated through the USAID Health Reform project grant program at Zhytomyr Medical Institute in Ukraine during the first half of 2024. Additionally, the satisfaction of both groups with the curricula content was evaluated.

Background: This study examined the association between opioid-use disorder (OUD)-related diagnoses (eg, opioid dependence) and social determinants of health (SDoH) among patients with chronic pain.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was performed using the All of Us dataset (including >70,000 patients) to measure associations between SDoH and OUD using population- and individual-level surveys. Mixed-effects multivariable regression models (random effect being zip code) were conducted for each of the key SDoH domains.
