Article Synopsis
  • - Tuberculosis (TB) primarily affects the lungs but can also impact the eyes in 2-18% of extrapulmonary cases, making diagnosis a challenge due to elusive symptoms and difficulty in obtaining samples.
  • - A case study is presented of a patient with a recurring chalazion-like eyelid lesion that did not improve with surgery or medication, leading to further investigation.
  • - Ultimately, the lesion was identified as tubercular through microbiological testing, and the patient fully recovered following appropriate antitubercular treatment.

Background: Tuberculous mastitis (TBM), is an uncommon form of extra-pulmonary tuberculosis. Clinical and radiological overlap of tuberculous mastitis with malignancy and other granulomatous conditions, along with its paucibacillary nature, make it a diagnostic challenge. In our study, we aim to assess the radiological response of microbiologically negative granulomatous mastitis cases to anti-tuberculous treatment (ATT) in an endemic country.

Background: Extrapulmonary tuberculosis (EPTB) makes for 25% of all instances of tuberculosis (TB) patients. The enigmatic clinical presentation of EPTB makes identification difficult since it simulates other chronic conditions such as neoplastic and inflammatory disorders and could culminate in treatment that is either insufficient or not required. For an affirmative and confirmed diagnosis, a substantial level of suspicion is imperative.

Drug-Resistant Bone, Joint and Spine Tuberculosis: Evolution of Diagnosis and Treatment.

Indian J Orthop

June 2024

University College of Medical Sciences, University of Delhi, A10 Part B, Ashok Nagar, Ghaziabad, 201002 India.

Background: Drug resistant (DR) osteoarticular TB (OATB) is a challenge in view of it being deep seated lesion and paucibacillary disease. Case definition, investigation protocol, treatment of proven DR and those cases where DR could not be demonstrated lacks clarity and evidence. Hence, a series of studies were conducted to develop an algorithm to investigate and treat therapeutically refractory disease (TRD) or presumptive drug resistance (PDR) cases of OATB.
