Objective: Percutaneous absorption of l-ascorbic acid (LAA) is limited due to its high hydrophilicity and low stability. Here, we investigated the effect of post-dosing sonophoresis (329 kHz, 20 mW cm ) and heat (36°C) on transdermal delivery of LAA.
Methods: Ultrasound/heat, heat and control treatments were applied on skin surface for 2 and 5 min after topical application of C14-labelled LAA aqueous solution.

An intake of C14 in the form of dichlorobenzene was followed up with 90 spot urine samples over a period of almost 2 weeks. This dataset has been fitted by a model consisting of three exponential terms. The intake and effective dose have been calculated.

To study the distribution and localization of oil-soluble arteether in experimental mice, we injected C14-labelled arteether (20 microCi/kg body weight) intramuscularly and measured radioactivity in the blood, kidney, and liver. The labelled arteether distributed and localized more to the kidney (819,180.4 +/- 34,134 dpm/cm3) than the liver (288,628.

Thromboxane A2 (TXA2) formed in damaged brain tissue and after thromboembolism and subarachnoid haemorrhage is responsible for cerebral vasospasm. In the present study, we examined the effect of human cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) on the production of thromboxane-A2 (TXA2) and 12-hydroxy-eicosatetraenoic acid (12-HETE) by human blood platelets. CSF was drawn by lumbar puncture from normal healthy volunteers (n = 17) and samples judged to be normal after routine examination in the clinical laboratories and were used fresh.

Non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) is normally treated by oral hypoglycaemic agents, but their use is excluded during pregnancy because of their potential teratogenic and hypoglycaemic effects on the fetus. This caveat was recently questioned as glyburide was shown to cross an isolated cotyledon in vitro in insignificant amounts. In the present study, placental transport of glyburide in vivo was examined as an indispensable step towards clinical trials.
