Micro milling is widely used to manufacture micro parts due to its obvious advantages. The minimum undeformed chip thickness, the effective rake angle, and size effect are the typical characteristics and closely related to each other in micro milling. In this paper, the averaging method is proposed to quantitatively estimate the effective rake angle in the cutting process. The minimum undeformed chip thickness is explained based on the effective rake angle and determined to be 0.17 (tool cutting edge radius). Then, micro milling experiment was conducted to study the effect of the minimum undeformed chip thickness. It is found that the minimum undeformed chip thickness results in the unstable cutting process, the uneven peaks on cutting force signal, and the dense characteristic frequency distribution on frequency domain signal. The dominant ploughing effect induces the great specific cutting energy and the deteriorated surface roughness due to the minimum undeformed chip thickness.

Coal structure is one of the key geological factors that affects the effect of coal reservoir stimulation. Based on the geological spatial combination characteristics, thickness, and proportion of different coal structures, the coal reservoir is divided into different coal structure combination types. The hydraulic fracturing device is used to carry out indoor fracturing experiments and dissect the crack initiation and expansion characteristics with different coal structure combinations.

The prediction exactness of coalbed methane (CBM) content and productivity correlates closely with the gas adsorption rules of coal, but there is a noticeable difference in the gas adsorption rules between deformed and undeformed coal. One of the main factors affecting the gas adsorption capacity of coal is pore structure, which is affected by the particle size, and it is also one of the essential differences between deformed and undeformed coal. In this work, we experimentally study the law of the pore structure and gas adsorption capacity with the particle size.

Using extensive nonequilibrium molecular dynamics simulations, we investigate a glass-forming binary Lennard-Jones mixture under shear. Both supercooled liquids and glasses are considered. Our focus is on the characterization of inhomogeneous flow patterns such as shear bands that appear as a transient response to the external shear.

The Himalayan foreland basin formed by flexure of the Indian Plate below the advancing orogen. Motion on major thrusts within the orogen has resulted in damaging historical seismicity, whereas south of the Main Frontal Thrust (MFT), the foreland basin is typically portrayed as undeformed. Using two-dimensional seismic reflection data from eastern Nepal, we present evidence of recent deformation propagating >37 km south of the MFT.
