Quantifying how hurricanes disrupt educational attainment is essential to evaluating the burden of climate-related disasters. Here, we examine the association between hurricane-force tropical cyclones and educational attainment among elementary and middle school students in all affected areas in the United States during the 2008/2009-2017/2018 school years. Educational performance was based on county-level average standardized test scores in math and reading/language arts (RLAs).

Tauktae was an Extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm (ESCS) that occurred in the Arabian Sea (AS) during 14-19 May 2021. The present study investigates the prevalent role of the ocean/atmosphere on the genesis and intensification of it, and causative ocean-met factors from a climatological and current perspective; and tries to understand the reason of intensification though it was close (~ 140 km) to the coast. In general, the climatological Genesis Potential Index (GPI) is higher off the Indian west coast during the cyclone seasons, in which, low-level absolute vorticity (ABV) and mid-tropospheric relative humidity (RH) have major roles to play.

Malawi-one of the low-income countries in Africa-has witnessed a series of flood-related disasters in many years. The recent tropical cyclone Freddy (TCF) has indispensable effects on the unequal distribution of the social determinants of health with tendencies for increased disease outbreaks across the districts of the country. This narrative study aimed at unravelling the consequences of the TCF and its possible relationship with the already existing cholera epidemic in the fourteen affected districts.

The study highlights the vulnerability of the eastern coast to tropical cyclones and the unique characteristics of the Bay of Bengal region. Seasonality, driven by global climatic events and geography, significantly affects the marine ecosystem. Furthermore, it underscores the effects of extreme climate events on marine pelagic fisheries and advocates for a state-based approach to raise awareness among government institutions and fishing communities.
