Ashwagandha (), known as Indian , contains three major bioactive compounds, withaferin-A (WA), 12-deoxywithastramonolide (WO) and withanoloide A (WD). In a field experiment, the impacts of foliar application of growth retardants/promoters was assessed with respect to biomass allocation pattern and major withanoloide content at different phenological stages in Biomass accumulation pattern showed that foliar application of 500 mg lethrel at 50, 65, 85, 105, and 120 days after sowing (DAS) restricted phenological progression and reduced berry weight by 61% as comparted to the control at 160 DAS. 500 mg l succinic acid foliar application resulted in maximum plant height (56.4 cm), maximum dry stem weight (DWS) and dry root weight (DRW) whereas 500 mg l ethrel had resulted in minimum plant height and DRW at 180 DAS. During last 50 days of crop growth, the accumulation pattern drastically changed with more than 60% of the biomass allotment to the reproductive part, the berries. The WD in roots ranged between 0.325 mg gand 0.342 mg g during all growth stages. WA content decreased with increase in progression of crop growth and reached the lowest at 180-190 DAS. In a pot experiment, ethrel application up regulated DWF-5 by 2.44, SQE by 3.79 and CYP450s by 1.17 log2fold in roots 8 h after treatment and succinic acid had up regulated the expression of all these genes by nearly 3 log2fold change. This is in accordance with the withanoloide accumulation pattern in field condition under foliar application of these molecules.

Detrimental effects of terminal heat stress could be mitigated by exogenous application of synthetic compounds by preserving cell membrane integrity and protecting against oxidative damage. A field experiment was conducted to test the application of seven synthetic compounds on wheat growth traits: (1) thiourea (20 mM and 40mM); (2) potassium nitrate (1% and 2%); (3) sodium nitroprusside (400 μg mL-1 and 800μg mL-1 ); (4) dithiothreitol (25 ppm and 50ppm); (5) salicylic acid (100 ppm and 200ppm); (6) thioglycolic acid (200 ppm and 500ppm); and (7) putrescine (4 mM and 6mM). These compounds were applied at the anthesis and grain-filling stages to enhance physio-biochemical traits and yield attributes of wheat (Triticum aestivum ) cvs GW-11 and GW-496 under terminal heat stress.

The production of medicinal plants under stressful environments offers an alternative to meet the requirements of sustainable agriculture. The action of mycorrhizal fungus; Funneliformis mosseae and zinc in stimulating growth and stress tolerance in medicinal plants is an intriguing area of research. The current study evaluated the combined use of nano-zinc and mycorrhizal fungus on the physiochemical responses of Dracocephalum moldavica under salinity stress.

Salinity is one of the predominant abiotic stressors that reduce plant growth, yield, and productivity. Ameliorating salt tolerance through nanotechnology is an efficient and reliable methodology for enhancing agricultural crops yield and quality. Nanoparticles enhance plant tolerance to salinity stress by facilitating reactive oxygen species detoxification and by reducing the ionic and osmotic stress effects on plants.

Although the use of foliar spraying with organic matter has been extensively studied and applied to reduce heavy metals in plants, research on its application for reducing mercury (Hg) accumulation in plants, particularly the more toxic methylmercury (MeHg), remains scarce. Furthermore, previous researches on the barrier mechanisms of foliar spraying primarily concentrated on the effects of spraying agents on plant physiological and biochemical indicators, with limited focus on their impacts on soil environment. Herein, the dynamic effects and mechanisms of organic foliar spraying materials, including earthworm liquid fertilizer (ELF), Tween 80 (T80), and citric acid (CA), on soil Hg methylation and accumulation in lettuce were investigated using pot experiment.

Salinity is one of the abiotic stress factors that affect plant physiology and cause various plant disorders. Thiourea, which consists of amino, thiol, and imino groups, is an antioxidant and growth regulator. The objective was to determine the antioxidant role of thiourea (0, 3, 6 mM) in attenuating the effects of salinity (0 mM, 50 mM, 100 mM NaCl) on growth, yield, and some biochemical compositions of flax ( L.
