The performance of an optoelectronic device is largely dependent on the light harvesting properties of the active material as well as the dynamic behaviour of the photoexcited charge carriers upon absorption of light. Recently, atomically thin two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides (2D TMDCs) have garnered attention as highly prospective materials for advanced ultrathin solar cells and other optoelectronic applications, owing to their strong interaction with electromagnetic radiation, substantial optical conductivity, and impressive charge carrier mobility. WSe is one such extremely promising solar energy material.

The hybrid magnetic heterostructures and superlattices, composed of organic and inorganic materials, have shown great potential for quantum computing and next-generation information technology. Organic materials generally possess designable structural motifs and versatile optical, electronic, and magnetic properties, but are too delicate for robust integration into solid-state devices. In contrast, inorganic systems provide robust solid-state interface and excellent electronic properties but with limited customization space.

Electric transportation and electroreception in hummingbird flower mites.

Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A

February 2025

School of Biological Sciences, Life Sciences Department, University of Bristol, Bristol BS8 1TQ, England.

Electric fields in terrestrial environments are used by caterpillars to detect their predators, as foraging cues by pollinators, and facilitate ballooning by spiders. This study shows that electric fields facilitate transportation and detection of hummingbirds in a guild of tropical phoretic mites. Hummingbird flower mites feed on nectar and pollen and complete their life cycle inside flowers.
