The measure of White Blood Cells (WBC) in the blood is an important indicator of pathological conditions. Computer vision based methods for differential counting of WBC are increasing due to their advantages over traditional methods. However, most of these methods are proposed for single WBC images which are pre-processed, and do not generalize for raw microscopic images with multiple WBC. Moreover, they do not have the capability to detect the absence of WBC in the images. This paper proposes an image processing algorithm based on K-Means clustering to detect the presence of WBC in raw microscopic images and to localize them, and a VGG-16 classifier to classify those cells with a classification accuracy of 95.89%.

Background: Current guidelines recommend empiric antibiotic therapy for patients who require hospitalization for community-acquired pneumonia (CAP). We sought to determine whether clinical, imaging or laboratory features in patients hospitalized for CAP in whom PCR is positive for a respiratory virus enable exclusion of bacterial coinfection so that antibiotics can be withheld.
Methods: For this prospective study, we selected patients in whom an etiologic diagnosis was likely to be reached, namely those who provided a high-quality sputum sample at or shortly after admission, and in whom PCR was done to test for a respiratory virus.

Objective: This study was to explore the factors associated with prolonged hospital length of stay (LOS) in patients with intracranial aneurysms (IAs) undergoing endovascular interventional embolization and construct prediction model machine learning algorithms.
Methods: Employing a retrospective cohort study design, this study collected patients with ruptured IA who received endovascular treatment at Jingzhou First People's Hospital during the inclusion period from September 2022 to December 2023. The entire dataset was randomly split into training and testing dataset with a 7:3 ratio.

Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) risk calculators estimate the 10-year incident risk of myocardial infarction (MI), coronary artery disease (CAD) death, or stroke; however, they lack comprehensiveness and accuracy. Carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT) is a surrogate marker that may improve risk estimation acumen. The objective of this study was to derive ASCVD risk scores from historical data and determine whether these risk scores are associated with the history of subclinical CAD and CIMT.
