DB-B5 was isolated from the supragingival plaque of a healthy female subject. The complete 2.3-Mb genome consists of one circular chromosome, two circular plasmids (including a megaplasmid), and one linear phage-like episome. The genome possesses two separate loci encoding bacteriocins.

Rampant caries is identified by rapid onset, severe decay affecting multiple surfaces, and early pulp infection. This case-control study was conducted to investigate the disparities in oral microbiota between children affected by rampant caries and their caries-free counterparts. A total of 88 preschool children, with matched distribution of sex and age in both the case and control groups, participated in this study.

Objectives: Among healthy people, we understand very little about the sociodemographic, lifestyle, and dental hygiene behaviours that shape their oral microbiota. This study investigates how sociodemographic, lifestyle and dental hygiene behaviours shape oral microbiota diversity and composition in an Australian population to better inform healthy oral microbiota donors for Oral Microbiota Transplantation (OMT).
Methods: The study comprised 93 healthy adults who underwent comprehensive oral examinations and questionnaires to assess their health status.

Bacteria significantly influence human health and disease, with bacterial biosynthetic gene clusters (BGCs) being crucial in the microbiome-host and microbe-microbe interactions. Despite extensive research into BGCs within the human gut microbiome, their roles in the oral microbiome are less understood. This pilot study utilizes high-throughput shotgun metagenomic sequencing to examine the oral microbiota in different niches, particularly focusing on the association of BGCs with periodontitis.

Commensal oral streptococci that colonize supragingival biofilms deploy mechanisms to combat competitors within their niche. Here, we determined that more effectively inhibited biofilm formation of within a seven species panel. This phenotype was common amongst all assayed isolates of , but was specific to a single strain of , ATCC 49456.
