Natural Gas Hydrate (NGH) develops and exists in pores of soil sediments under deep seabed and permafrost regions. A cavitation jet is an efficient method of rock breaking, especially for soft hydrate sediment erosion. This paper presents an experimental apparatus that was developed to synthesize NGH and hydrate-bearing sediments and analyze the drilling efficiency of the cavitation jet. The visualization study of fluid flow and breaking mechanism can be conducted over a temperature range varying from -20 °C to 100 °C and up to a maximum confining pressure of 20 MPa. This apparatus is mainly composed of the pressure control and injection system, the cooling system, the cavitation system, and the reaction vessels into which the lab-fabricated temperature/pressure/resistivity sensor probe is inserted. The basic principles of this apparatus are discussed, and a series of experiments were performed to verify that the cavitating jet can be practically applied in the exploitation of NGH reservoirs.

Introduction: Toxocarosis in human beings is currently diagnosed by serological assay based on the detection of antibodies against Toxocara antigens. Toxocara canis larvae do not reach the adult stage in paratenic hosts like humans and mice. Therefore experimental infection in mice, which mimics the biology of human infection, might be relevant to get a better understanding of human toxocarosis.

CellREADR: An ADAR-based RNA sensor-actuator device.

Methods Enzymol

January 2025

Department of Neurobiology, Duke University School of Medicine, Durham, NC, United States; Department of Biomedical Engineering, Duke University, Durham, NC, United States. Electronic address:

RNAs are central mediators of genetic information flow and gene regulation that underlie diverse cell types and cell states across species. Thus, methods that can sense and respond to RNA profiles in living cells will have broad applications in biology and medicine. CellREADR - Cell access through RNA sensing by Endogenous ADAR (adenosine deaminase acting on RNA), is a programmable RNA sensor-actuator technology that couples the detection of a cell-defining RNA to the translation of an effector protein to monitor and manipulate the cell.

Applied Nuclear Technology in Geosciences Key Laboratory of Sichuan Province, Chengdu University of Technology, Chengdu, People's Republic of China.

Context: The study of the influence of solvent on 1-bromo adamantane (BAD) exposes prominent solvatochromatic shifts in the optical absorbance and substantial solvent effects on the electronic structure. This facilitates the molecular probe abilities for the BAD with respect to the surrounding environments such as dielectric constant and polarity. BAD exhibits positive solvatochromism for nonpolar solvents and negative solvatochromatic shifts for polar and aromatic solvents.

School of Optoelectronic Engineering and Instrumentation Science, Dalian University of Technology, Dalian, Liaoning 116024, China.

A highly sensitive trace gas sensing system based on carbon black absorption enhanced photoacoustic (PA) spectroscopy (PAS) is reported. A carbon black sheet and a fiber-optic cantilever microphone (FOCM) are integrated to form a fiber-optic cantilever spectrophone (FOCS). The gas concentration is obtained by measuring the acoustic wave amplitude generated by the carbon black sheet, which absorbs the laser passing through the interest gas.

State Key Laboratory for Extreme Photonics and Instrumentation, International Research Center for Advanced Photonics, Ningbo Innovation Center, College of Optical Science and Engineering, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, 310058, China.

The frequency-modulated continuous-wave (FMCW) technology combined with optical phased array (OPA) is promising for the all-solid-state light detection and ranging (LiDAR). We propose and experimentally demonstrate a silicon integrated OPA combined with an optical frequency microcomb for parallel LiDAR system. For realizing the parallel wavelengths emission consistent with Rayleigh criterion, the wide waveguide beyond single mode region combined with the bound state in the continuum (BIC) effect is harnessed to obtain an ultra-long optical grating antenna array.
