This paper demonstrates the potential of Eu2O3 and Gd2O3 as catalysts for non-oxidative propane dehydrogenation to propene. They reveal a higher activity than the state-of-the-art bare ZrO2-based catalysts due to the higher intrinsic activity of Gdcus or Eucus in comparison with that of Zrcus (cus = coordinatively unsaturated).

A membrane reactor (MR) offers a solution to overcome thermodynamic equilibrium limitations by enabling in situ product separation, enhancing product yields and energy efficiency. Here we present a protocol for synthesizing a carbon MR that couples a H-permeable carbon molecular sieve hollow fiber membrane and a metal supported on zeolite catalyst for non-oxidative propane and ethane dehydrogenation. We describe steps for catalyst preparation, membrane fabrication, and MR construction.

Knowing the structure of catalytically active species/phases and providing methods for their purposeful generation are two prerequisites for the design of catalysts with desired performance. Herein, we introduce a simple method for precise preparation of supported/bulk catalysts. It utilizes the ability of metal oxides to dissolve and to simultaneously precipitate during their treatment in an aqueous ammonia solution.

Non-oxidative dehydrogenation of propane is a highly efficient approach for industrial preparation of propene that is commonly catalyzed by noble Pt or toxic Cr catalysts and suffers from coking. In this work, ferric catalyst confined in a zeolite framework was synthesized by a hydrothermal procedure. The isolated Fe in the framework formed distorted tetrahedra, which were beneficial for the selective dehydrogenation of propane and reached over 95 % propene selectivity and over 99 % total olefins selectivity.

Single cluster catalysts show excellent potential for propane dehydrogenation, compensating for the limited catalytic performance of single-atom catalysts in reactions involving multiple reaction steps and intermediates. Herein, density functional theory is used to investigate the catalytic activity and mechanism for non-oxidized propane dehydrogenation on Fe-CN ( = 2-5). Firstly, the stability of Fe-CN ( = 2-5) is evaluated by comparing the mean values of binding energy and cohesive energy.
