Osteoporotic fractures comprise a deadly disease which has ascending epidemiology in the 21st century. Cha-racterized by inadequate force impulses which cause breaks of bone tissue in key places for traumatology: proximal femur, spine. This is a severe economic, social, and health problem. The first condition for recovery after fracture is obtaining proper qualification for surgical treatment. Next the surgery must be made as fast as possible in order to provide internal diagnostics, while simultaneously maintaining the patient's safety. It's very important to create optimal conditions for bone healing. The essence of the problem "osteoporotic fractures" is low bone mineral density (BMD). It was found that in research 'in vivo', it is possible to reach a higher value of this factor via supplementation with ossein-hydroxyapatite complex (OHC) as compared to standard Calcium Salts.

Unlabelled: Rural communities face healthcare challenges. This study assessed a multicomponent intervention to improve hospital visits and anti-osteoporosis medication (AOM) treatment rates. A total of 567 patients were randomized into three groups.

Unlabelled: Using the UK Clinical Practice Research Datalink, our cohort study matched 237,297 individuals with hearing loss (HL) to 829,431 without HL. The study found an 8-10% higher risk of major osteoporotic fracture in individuals with HL compared to those without. Additionally, within the HL cohort, we identified risk factors for potential inclusion in fracture risk models.

Subsequent vertebral fracture (SVF) is a common and refractory complication after percutaneous vertebral augmentation (PVA) for osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture (OVCF). Computed tomography (CT)-based Hounsfeld units (HU) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-based vertebral bone quality (VBQ) score can evaluate osteoporosis quantitatively, hyperlipidemia(HLP) might affect measurement result of VBQ score. The primary objective of this study is to compare the predictive capabilities of HU and VBQ for SVF, and to clarify the impact of hyperlipidemia on the predictive abilities.

Background: To explore the clinical characteristics of percutaneous vertebroplasty (PVP) via unilateral transverse process-pedicular (UTPP) approach in the treatment of osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture (OVCF) in the elderly.

Methods: A total of 120 elderly patients with lumbar OVCF who underwent PVP via unilateral pedicular (UTP) and UTPP approaches in our hospital from January 2022 to January 2024 were retrospectively analyzed. The postoperative VAS score (visual analog scale), ODI score (Oswestry disability index), surgical indicators, and imaging indicators were recorded in the two groups.

Prediction of hip fracture by high-resolution peripheral quantitative computed tomography in older Swedish women.

J Bone Miner Res

January 2025

Sahlgrenska Osteoporosis Centre, Department of Internal Medicine and Clinical Nutrition, Institute of Medicine, University of Gothenburg, Gothenburg, Sweden.

The socioeconomic burden of hip fractures, the most severe osteoporotic fracture outcome, is increasing and the current clinical risk assessment lacks sensitivity. This study aimed to develop a method for improved prediction of hip fracture by incorporating measurements of bone microstructure and composition derived from high-resolution peripheral quantitative computed tomography (HR-pQCT). In a prospective cohort study of 3028 community-dwelling women aged 75 to 80, all participants answered questionnaires and underwent baseline examinations of anthropometrics and bone by dual x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) and HR-pQCT.
